09:56 AM ET 10.30 | David Stern proclaimed officially Friday there is no longer a chance of squeezing in an 82-game schedule with a Dec. 1 starting date. However, multiple sources predict a 78-game slate will be staged if the sides compromise on the revenue split by next weekend. The final schedule has to be an even number, sources said.

I prefer a zero game schedule. To be honest most people don't care.

Then why are you here? Some of us do care. If you don't, that's your prerogative, but there are numerous other places for you to spend time on FanNation.. This particular thread was under the heading-- Truth & Rumors > NBA. Perhaps you got here by accident.

Thus turning the travesty that is the NBA regular season into even more of a joke.
One would think that owners and players would have noticed the endless comments on this shutdown that range from dislike for the league to flat-out hatred. You would think they would be saying - "hey, we need to make changes or in time the NBA is going to fade away."
Changes needed - Shorten the season. Playing 82 games solely to eliminate the Timberwolves is a joke. Fewer teams make the playoffs - make those regular season games matter. No guaranteed contracts. Fans are fed up with watching players making $15 million season dog it two years into a six year deal. Allow teams to franchise one player. Players are fools if they think a league where six teams are competitive is a model for success. Hard cap on salaries. Lower ticket prices as a result.
Finally - Get Stern to retire - I don't know anyone who does not hate his chubby, smug face.

Honestly I think that an 82 game season gets a little long for a season anyway. Personally, I'd love to see the season shortened down to maybe 65 or 60 games because it seems like it drags slowly on from all star break to the last 10ish games. Maybe have a proposal where you play every team twice, then a couple rivalry/heated games more than once.

O.K. Mr Negative, enough people care to make the NBA a multi-billion dollar business. Over 1.5 million people pay the big ticket prices to attend the games, plus millions watching on TV. That being said, I would not miss an NBA season if cancelled... I like college hoops, but really I'm just waiting for football again.

78? No way. If the lockout ended today, they should use 3 weeks for training camp, and then start the season Thanksgiving week. Shoot for 68 games to prevent all the nonsense that went on during the 99 season.

I think any shortened season will lead to a paper champion, even if its my lakers. Without a full season, no one will take the champion seriously.
