Forte: Bears are OK grinding me into a pulp

08:04 AM ET 11.02 | Matt Forte acknowledges he holds little leverage, though he said he's tiring of inquiries about his contract status. [Forte's] starting to wonder if his durability is being taken for granted. "The running back position is the most physically demanding on the field," Forte said Tuesday. "Everyone acknowledges that. So to continue to give me the touches I've had since my rookie year but not award me a long-term contract sends the message that you're OK grinding me into a pulp." Forte hasn't missed a game since being taken in the second round of the 2008 draft, playing through an assortment of injuries, particularly in 2009. But he rebounded in 2010 and leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage this season with 1,091.

Forte is the Rock of the Bears.

This guy is the polar opposite of Chris Johnson. Pay the man, already.

Matt Forte don't worry about a contract from the Bears. There are plenty of teams who will bend of backwards to give you the long term contrract YOU DESERVE. The Bears are to stupid to know when they have a good thing.

I wonder if the way the Bears are treating Forte will have any bearing on their ability to sign free agents in the future. They REALLY oughtta pay the man.

Do the Bears ever pay anybody?

The game has changed. RB is not even in the top five for where you put the big money anymore. QB,WR,CB,OT and DE all rate higher on the value scale.
He will remain unhappy me thinks. Not about his ability or effort, long term big bucks and running backs just do not go together.

Forte is right, the Bears are content to just use him up until nothing is left. I feel sorry for Forte because he will never receive the payout he deserves. Due to the CBA the Bears can franchise him for the next two years, now that can be alot of money but not the long term security he is looking for.

When those two years are up he will be 27 going on 28, with six years of heavy duty pounding. Now at that age and mileage, most NFL RB's production starts to take a nose dive. (With the few exceptions: Payton, Smith, Allen, and C. Martin) At this point most teams will not sign Forte to the long term, big money contract he is looking for.

According to John Clayton (ESPN)...Clayton projects the Bears to be $37 million under the cap, which means the Bears should have plenty of money to play with once a new collective bargaining agreement is finalized and the NFL returns to the business of free agency. This was written 100 days ago
