08:19 AM ET 11.02 | Calling Illinois Rep. Bobby Rush a critic of the NCAA would be to traffic in understatement. "I think they're just one of the most vicious, most ruthless organizations ever created by mankind," [Rush] said of the NCAA at a congressional forum on college sports Tuesday. "I think you would compare the NCAA to Al Capone and to the Mafia." Rush made the accusations at the forum called to look at the impact of "back-room deals, payoffs and scandals" in college sports. The congressman spoke after hearing from a couple of mothers of former student-athletes who complained of ill treatment by schools after their sons suffered injuries. "Congressman Rush obviously doesn't know the NCAA," [said NCAA spokesman] Bob Williams.

NCAA = Mafia?? SEC = Chicago?? Slive = Capone??

Good thing there are no problems in America, and Congress canconcentrate their energy on huge, pressing issues like college football!

I was thinking the same thing myself!

If our Congressmen have time to be worrying about the NCAA and not our multi trillion deficit then we are far worse off than we thought!!!

How bout you let the media fight the NCAA with words and you can try and figure out how to erase a couple zero's from the deficit.

I wonder if Slive deals with people like Capone did. I watched that Prohibition documentary and I didn't realize just how bad **** Capone was. That man didn't give a ****.

Yea..he doesn't know the NCAA, it's much worse than the mafia. Actually if it were like the mafia maybe we would not have all of these teams jumping to different conferences.

Exactly, the mafia has territories staked out and you don't go into another one without punitive actions.

IMO, the NCAA is a bunch of bumbling idiots (thx SVT). NCAA is closer to Barney Fife w/ the bullett in his pocket than they are to Capone...
