Can Paterno survive Penn State scandal?

10:02 AM ET 11.06 | Joe Paterno is done. The 84-year-old Penn State head coach, whose eventual retirement is the subject of annual speculation, will no longer be the one making that decision. If the indictments brought by a grand jury and announced by state Attorney General Linda Kelly result in convictions of former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky for a sick history of sexual assaults on children, and two Penn State officials for failing to act on those allegations and then lying about it, then Paterno also has to be dismissed in the clean sweep that must follow. Paterno escaped indictment because he told athletic director Tim Curley about an alleged 2002 incident in which a graduate student reported discovering Sandusky performing sex acts on a boy who was about 10 years old in the shower area of a football locker room. Paterno told Curley, who failed to report it to the proper authorities, according to the attorney general. Then Paterno apparently did nothing.

This is the most heinous acts of cruelty to a child I have read about in a very long time. What makes this case so sickening is the length of time it took to bring these allegations to light. No form of justice will restore the victim???s innocence. However, once all of the assailants have been successfully prosecuted and found guilty, I hope they suffer the same wrath as Jeffrey Dahmer, Timothy McVeigh, and John Allen Mohammad.

I think a law was broken, not an NCAA rule but I could be wrong. I think this is more in the law enforcement's court. I'm not sure the NCAA has the authority to incarcerate people.

The death penalty is the popular term for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s power to ban a school from competing in a sport for at least one year. It is the harshest penalty that an NCAA member school can receive.
This happened in the shower of the football locker room. They should be hammered by law enforcement and the NCAA.
