08:05 AM ET 11.08 | Shaquille O'Neal left few stones unturned -- or unthrown -- in his new book. O'Neal reserves the harshest criticism, however, for Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak. O'Neal speaks of Kupchak in only six pages. ... But that's enough prose to label Kupchak as the main culprit behind Shaq's hasty departure from the Lakers. According to the book, Kupchak promised to grant Shaq a contract extension following the 2003-04 season and not to discuss their contract negotiations publicly. Once the 2003-04 season ended, however, O'Neal was disturbed by an apparent interview in which Kupchak revealed the Lakers' plan to hold onto Bryant while keeping their options open with O'Neal.

TheLlakers won champoinships after Shaq left so Kupchak knew what he was doing. Shaq has loaded his book with controversy because thats what sells.

Who cares Shaq, it worked best for both parties. Shaq was already giving a fat contract and was traded to a team he won a champoinship with.

Shaq is the reason the Lakers did not keep on winning. His ego and his weight kept on getting bigger. He was unwilling to accept that Kobe was on the verge of becoming the best in the league.

This guy could've been the greatest of all time if only he had an ounce of Kobe's desire. Lack of accountability says a lot about this guy and the legacy he leaves behind.

Thanks Shaq but enough bro. You could be so much more if you actually put your body to work instead your mouth.

Mt. Shquira is spewing more hubris, I see. But then women are known to nurse a grudge long after everyone else has moved on so this comes as little surprise.

Shaq could have been on e of the greatest ever, but never worked hard, and insisted on trying to shoot from 5-10 feet rather than going to hole every time. Now, he wants to blame everybody else. He bitched about Kobe saying his toe injury wasn't serious, then said it ended his career (8 years later). He is the poster child for spoiled, underachieving athletes. What do you think Jordan or Bird would have done if they had Shaq's body? They could have averaged 75 ppg, 30 rb, 15 blocks.

Why is Shaq pretending like he doesn't know the business side of this. He also knows that Kupchack has people he answers to and can't do anything without approval. If Jerry Buss wanted Shaq to be a Laker moving forward it would have happened. If I was an owner and I heard Shaq's comment about not having surgery immediately after the season was over so he could be ready for training camp, I wouldn't pay him all that $$ either. He said he had the surgery near the beginning of camp and not on vacation because "I didn't get hurt while on vacation" Therefore he misses games (while being paid) and has no consideration for his team. Yes, I really want to pay that guy 20 mil plus per season..

It was obvious that Shaq and Kobe would not play together..so it came down to which one would you get rid of? WHo had the harder work ethic? Who was younger? Who was fat? Who would not learn how to shoot free throws? Even underhanded.
