08:08 AM ET 11.08 | Perhaps it can all come to an end, the PR sniping, the talk of BRI, the hard-liners vs. doves, and players playing "All-Star Classics." My gut feeling: We will have a settlement of the NBA lockout within 36 hours. Why? Because, folks, they are 99 percent of the way there. (You don't pile all of the kids into the station wagon, tell them you are driving to DisneyWorld and then stop in the outskirts of Orlando and say you are turning around.) The owners are at 50 percent on the revenue split. The players are at 51 -- or "fifty plus one" as they put it when talks broke off Saturday night, with that extra 1 percent representing $40 million that would be earmarked for improved pensions for both current and retired players.

Fans are falling off at a rapid rate...............they better hurry

The only reason the players want fifty plus one is so they think they control the league.

50 + 1 seems to be an ok deal.. whats the hold up?

This Sheridanhoops site is about as bad a sports site as there is. This is about the 3rd or 4th article by them predicting an agreement by such and such a date. So far they've been wrong every time.

The sad part is that if and when a deal is reached this site is going to proudly announce that they predicted it long before anyone else.

Which is easy to say when everyday you come out and say they will settle tomorrow. You'll be right eventually

99% of the way there ---they are not close to 50%. The NBA owners and Stern may have drawn a technical with their take it or leave it ultimatum. I think there is a good chance that the players will decertify the union and sue the owners. I think there is a distant chance that the players abandon the NBA altogether and move to form their own league ----this could happen after the players vote down the Stern ultimatum on Wednesday.

Personally I think the players would be better off with a new group of owners and a new COmmissioner ----- would be nice to see this fat cat owners writing off their billion dollar investments

It's on the players court and they either want a season or they're going to take it to court! The way I see it the union already said no to the deal and there will be no season. Both sides were very clear on their decision. Stern said take it or leave it and Hunter said no way we take that deal! It was stupid for Fisher to say no adamantly w/out even advising the players about it. Either way Fisher and Hunter's egos are on the line. If they agree than Fisher and Huntet misrepresented the players big time!

Throughout the entire negotiation process and for the last two years I think the players have been seriously mislead and misinformed about the entire situation as it relates to both bargaining progress and the potential for a lockout.

I would like to think that Hunter and Fisher did this deliberately because if not, then it means these guys are just too stupid and arrogant to believe. It never should have come to this. They had 3 years to work on the issues. If Fisher and Hunter thought the owners were bluffing and a lockout would never happen then they are stupid enough to be charged with misrepresentation and malfeasance.

They screwed this up and people are suffering because their egos prevented them from seeing the writing on the wall. And now all they're interested in is getting everything the can for the few stars that matter. The rest of the players union be damned

If the players decertify it spell be their doom... and the chance of them starting their own league is too funny to believe and will never happen. When it comes to the issues surrounding these negotiations and the business aspects involved they have no clue. Most of them aren't as bright as your average McDonalds employee.

They couldn't run a hot dog stand let alone a league and a team.

Have I not been telling you all along that my source on the inside has been telling me that the NBA will be back by December? Man I'm good aren't I? (and the crowd applauds)

Damn, Doc... if there is anyone with his finger on the pulse of these negotiations it's you.

Can you tell us what the new ticket prices and schedules will be too :-)

I'm thinking your predictions are as good as anyone's at this point. But I'm still rooting for the loss of the entire season.

Anybody who followed the NFL lockout knows that decertification isn't going to help the players cause. The fact that you would mention that the players should form their own league proves that in fact you are an NBA player and have not one ounce of common sense. But seriously, if you believe the players have the fortitude, let alone the financial wherewithal to back one, then you are about as bright as 98% of the players. The players are headed for disaster if they don't stop listening to their greedy agents.

So, you think they're going to stop in Orlando and take the station wagon full of kids back home? .I think they will settle for 50/50 with the owners giving 1% to the pension fund. Everyone wins that way!

I think they should both take 48/48 and put the other 4% into a fund for retired players like Dr J and others that never got to see the kind of money these pampered HS dropouts are making. Seeing guys Like Dr J reduced to selling their rings and stuff just to survive lawsuits and other ex-players that retired with piss-poor retirement benefits is kind of bogus.

Looking towards the future is one thing. But making amends for past shortsights would be a nice gesture

Great post. Did they learn nothing from the NFL talks? The players are just whistling in the dark about now and are making empty... and laughable threats that will only hurt them more in the long run.

Run their own league?? That's about the funniest thing to come out during these talks.

I can see it now.. the new refs in the league will be personally schooled by the current Stars in how to call a game resulting in the elimination of the need to dribble the ball and players will be allowed to just run up and down the court and dunk the ball.

No one will be allowed to touch or impede certain players in any way while they are running around looking good. There will be a five second pause while the players stand and pose for picture after every great dunk so they can have the posters made by the end of the game.
