08:11 AM ET 11.08 | According to one report, 13 Marlins reps will attend a Yoenis Cespedes workout, and they won't be alone in the running. Private workouts will take place over the coming two or three weeks in the D.R. for the likes of the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Marlins, along with others. At the moment, before the bidding starts, the list of teams interested in Cespedes -- gleaned in part by their presence at workouts -- is long and decorated: Yankees, Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Marlins, Washington Nationals, Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates. ... An employee for one of the smaller-market clubs watching Cespedes said that if the Yankees want him, the Yankees will get him.

"If the Yankees want him, the Yankees will get him"

And that's all you need to know about how things work in MLB.

"If the Yankees want him they will get him."......So what else is new......"just add a few mil on top of what everyone else would pay and wrap him up to go"....

Money buys everything. Including championships (2009). And prospects.

I know. 2009 was the most evident in my eyes (Sabathia, Burnett, Texeira)

I'm no Yankee fan. That said... this line is a bit old. The Nationals have shown that they can get a player if they want him badly enough and throw enough money at him. (Jason Werth). But it doesn't mean squat if you don't know how to play the hand you end up with.

The Rays - and other teams as well - seem to be doing just fine with less.

Yeah - but it is fun when one of thier purchases blows up in thier face. Burnett, Igawa.

Yeah. But it won't last forever. We won't go for a 15 year playoff run.

Actually it started with buying Babe Ruth's contract in the 20's. You gotta spend money to make money.

It was technically a trade....player for cash.....but all in all your correct...the power of the almighty $$$$....

Nope. The Rays have to hope for a few "Up" years intersperced with a couple of retooling years. So, what pitchers do you think they'll deal this winter?

I thought they would deal Shields for some offense. Instead they have left Johnny Damon & Casey Kotchman unsigned and are free agents. Maybe Price. Get someone that can hit please!!!

Since 1923.

Rays blue chip drafts will be a little harder to pull off ....which technically is a good thing because it means they're playing well....so fewer higher draft picks.....puts more pressure on their scouts....

They have to hope enough people care enough to show up for their games first.

Ah - don't panic. There's a limited market for Damon and Kotch. They'll be on the market for a while. I think the Rays will try to shore up the catching position first. If I'm Friedman, I look to deal Shields. He's coming off a career year so his value is high. I just don't know what out there for catching. The Reds have some few catchers that are supposed to be good so maybe them.
