Colangelo on Stern: Inside, this is killing him

08:05 AM ET 11.09 | David Stern has presided over a league that has seen a great deal of change during his tenure -- change that has, according to some, changed him, too. [Said Jerry Colangelo:] "And in the past five to seven years, I've also seen some changes in David. He is a survivor and a competitor, but put it this way: some of the stuff has worn on him." However hardened and hardheaded, Stern's pain over having the N.B.A. shut down in the wake of its most compelling season in years has been obvious to those who have known him a long time. They are not fooled by the combative persona, the lawyer prosecuting his case in pursuit of a more balanced and profitable league. "Inside, this is killing him," Colangelo said.

No deal this year... Hopefully there won't be a next year either.

If he really cared, he would've pushed for a fair deal. 10-14 "hard-line owners" is not the majority. Get a deal done, stop lying, and stop giving out silly ultimatums...
I've grown tired of Stern over the years, from the dress code, to the "staged and fraudulent" draft lottery.

P.S. Cleveland doesn't need, nor deserve yet another 1st rd pick. Gilbert would mess it up anyways.

Good thing Hockey is big in Chicago. Everywhere I go Blackhawks are on and peeps in the places really enjoy the games and have gotten me into appreciating it again...Damned NBA!

I'm with you there, including the Hawks. Hockey will get even more of my attention if the season is cancelled.......and I'm willing to except that. College hoops will get the rest.

With a few minor changes Hockey could rival basketball for speed and action. It really is a beautiful and graceful sport.

Too little scoring and too much focus on fighting makes it hard to watch.

But that Bruins series last year was a thing of beauty even to me. Very little fights.. hard defense and lots of scoring on the Bruins side. The 7th game was what all hockey games should be like.

College hoops at least lets us watch a basketball game that actually resembles how basketball was intended to be played.

Not the freak show that the NBA has become where Stars are treated by different rules then the regular guys and the refs are so biased they may as well wear the number of the player they are sworn to protect on their shirts

If you cant stand the heat....
