08:08 AM ET 11.09 | Some figure the veteran Lakers might be aided by the lockout, though there will be a long-term side effect. That's because the new CBA in all likelihood will signal the end of the Lakers dynasty as we know it. ... It won't be impossible for the Lakers to win another championship under the terms of the new CBA, but it's very doubtful we'll see them in the NBA Finals 16 times in 32 years (their run since 1980), seven times in 12 years (their run since 2000) or three times in the past four seasons (to date). Why? Because the new proposed luxury tax penalties will be so punitive to big-spending teams such as the Lakers, it effectively will force owner Jerry Buss to be more judicious about exceeding the luxury tax threshold.
