08:13 AM ET 11.09 | The signing of Jim Thome may work out as a recruiting tool for Philadelphia. Free-agent Michael Cuddyer was in Philadelphia on Tuesday for a recruiting visit with the Phillies, sources confirmed to CSNPhilly.com. FOX 29 Philadelphia first reported Cuddyer's visit. According to sources, Cuddyer toured Citizens Bank Park and had lunch with Phillies officials. He also met with manager Charlie Manuel, who flew in from Florida. Cuddyer, who will turn 33 in March, hit .276 while averaging 22 homers and 82 RBIs the last three seasons with the Minnesota Twins. ... It is unclear whether the Phils made an offer to Cuddyer, but several sources have said the team is eager to sign him.

...phillies were already very old...so with the twin old guys of thome and cuddyer they may become the oldest team in mlb.....i guess the phillies think they have a shot next year??

With the 3 pitchers at the top of their rotation...why wouldnt they think they have a shot next year? Look at the Giants last year and Cardinals this year...Any team that makes the playoffs does have a shot...

Cuddy can be a good RF in the right situation. Still has an above average arm, but range has been limited lately. Can play a variety of positions, 1B, 3B, 2B. Will hit for some power and has a slightly above average OPS. As a Twins fan though, do not count on him in a clutch hitting situation. During high pressure hitting situations, i.e. late innings, game tied or behind with runners on base, will either strike out or hit into DP. Great clubhouse guy and great hitter when there's no pressure on him. I would personally PH for him anytime game is close in last three innings.

With that pitching, you think they don't have a shot? Maybe your screen name is right!

What is it with the Thome and Cuddyer tag team? Who are they? Batman and Robin? Seems pretty fishy

Real athletes require hard sports training to develop strong muscle. I took dianabol and primobolan to bench press 515 pounds of steel plates in five quick repetitions.

You apparently didn't watch many games in 2009 then my friend

The Phillies aren't as old as people are calling them. They are losing Raul Ibanez and replacing him with a combination of John Mayberry and Dom Brown. Also, Hunter Pence is their right fielder. Those guys aren't "old."

If the Phillies were to sign Cuddyer, where would he play? The only semi-logical place would be left field. Since the Phillies have John Mayberry Jr and Dom Brown, there's no point in it. Cuddyer would help balance the lineup, but I don't see somewhere for him to play. Then again, could the Phillies be looking at him for third base? I'm not sure what kind of 3B he would be, and would they push out Polanco for him?

Dom Brown won't see a single major league at bat in 2012. They will finally get him his 500 ab's in AAA and see if he can produce when playing daily. Mayberry is a perfect 4th outfielder and it would be inevitable that Cuddyer and Victorino would spend some quality time on the DL. Mayberry is better suited for that job than being a starter. Cuddyer would be the everyday left fielder. The Phils have 3 yrs. left on this run, then they need to start over. Age doesn't matter at this point.

Cuddyer would be an asset on any team. The Braves are crazy if they let the Phillies sign him.
