Francona not in the Cards

08:20 AM ET 11.10 | Terry Francona referred to his meeting with the Cardinals as "a dialogue" and "an enjoyable, casual conversation." Perhaps he wanted to keep it general and vague, in an attempt to respect the confidentiality of the Cardinals' process. ... And perhaps the meeting was, in fact, casual -- simply because DeWitt and Mozeliak need to get to know Francona personally. But if Francona is a serious candidate for this position, I suppose I didn't expect him to read words like "basic" and "casual" to describe the session. And it leads me to wonder -- perhaps incorrectly -- if Francona is, indeed, a serious candidate. My considerable gut tells me "No."

I seriously hope Bernie is right about this!

QUOTE(#3):

I think Francona would be a good fit - but - I don't think the Cards really had him in mind. I really think it is Jose's job to lose - just a gut feel.

You could be correct about it being Jose's job.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Jose, though! LOL

I think it is Francona or Oquendo, and I think Matheny is the dark horse

I can't see it being McEwing, Maloney or Sandburg

...st louis is more of a ribs and barbq town...fried chicken not so much...

Oquendo would mean continuity and stability as it relates to the coaching staff (which I like very much) while maintaining the same professional atmosphere within the clubhouse. Matheny could take over as 3rd base coach.

I believe they are just going through the motions to make it look like it wasn't a "shortlist" search. I think the writer was right when it was reported AP would prefer Oquendo. But - we shall see.

I would agree with you. I think it will be Oquendo, after a thorough review of all the usual suspects.

Since when do we count one writer's indigestion ("gut feeling") as a serious rumor?

Whoever comes to the Cards had better bring fatso Poo-Holes some more pasta. I wonder what he has been chowing down on recently. Starting to look like Papi.

His forearms look like pop-eye.

OK, if it is, "perhaps incorrectly, what is this article about? Body language? Maybe Francona didn't want to talk to any more gas bag reporters. Just a thought.

Especially after the comment I saw Sandberg make "Once a Cub, always a Cub"??????????? I'm not sure when that was made but I saw it televised on a STL channel when I was there this weekend
