Rockies start talks with Braves for Prado

08:20 AM ET 11.10 | The Braves have swung wide open their doors to trade, and Colorado has reportedly contacted them about Martin Prado. The Rockies scouted Prado extensively last season and view him as a starting second baseman who could occupy a run-producing spot in the lineup. The clubs have not yet exchanged names, but are expected to keep the lines of communication open. Atlanta is seeking outfield help, willing to consider moving Prado rather than use him in left field. The Rockies have outfield depth to start trade talks. Seth Smith could fit in a platoon for the Braves, and Charlie Blackmon, a former star at Georgia Tech, might satisfy the Braves" desire to get a center fielder of the future if they are unable to re-sign Michael Bourn.

i really hate the word 'platoon'; it indicates that Wren doesn't really want to solve the OF problem.
as my buddy so eloquently stated back during the regular season, it would be like 'putting a band-aid on a sucking chest wound'.

as for Bourn, the fact that he is a Boras client means he won't likely be with the Braves beyond next year.

Why on earth would you trade Prado? It seems like Wren is starting to do whatever he can to get rid of him. Prado SHOULD be the Braves' future at 3B!

whoever said gets on base alot does not watch Martin Prado bat very much. has become dead-pull hitter and an OPS under .700 (2011) does not cut it in MLB outfields. also, Joey Terdoslavich will be the 3B when Chipper retires anyway. Martin is good, but Terdo is special and alot cheaper!

Personally, I can't believe the Braves are letting all that pitching talent go to waste in the minors by trading Prado to fill the outfield needs. I understand that it is nice to have fill in pitchers come up and pitch a game or so for you when a starter goes on the DL but it does no good if the offense does not score runs for them, it only hurts.

Replacing Chipper with Prado gives you a guy that has averaged 133 games over that last three seasons (Chipper has averaged 121). And for more than a little bit of that time his production has been hampered by the fact that he was playing hurt or coming back from an injury. His numbers have declined since his best season. He's a serviceable player that works hard, and plays harder. The kind of player every team needs. But he is not the piece you build a team around. If trading him gets some better pieces then that is the move to make.

If he stays, leave him in left field. He did fine out there. Bat him second, or sixth through eighth. He is not a leadoff man (no need with Bourne there), and he's not a 3-5 hitter.

Also, in 2011 Prado played 100 games in LF. He made 3 errors. He played 41 games at 3B. He made 5 errors.
