Pronger mocks Lightning in return

08:29 AM ET 11.10 | Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger returned after a scary eye injury, and he doesn't like what he's seeing. [Pronger] called Tampa Bay's defensive style "embarrassing" after the Lightning's 2-1 overtime victory Wednesday. "It's not hockey in my book," Pronger fumed. "But whatever. The league is letting them do it. Would you pay money to watch that?" The Lightning trapped and the Flyers stalled in their own zone for most of the first period. It was about as exciting as watching paint dry. ... Playing against the Lightning's annoying-but-effective trap, the Flyers managed just 15 shots in the 62 minutes and 30 seconds. Only 10 of the shots came in even-strength situations. Ten.

Your team is pathetic for being too scared to push the puck forward. A team can play any defensive style they want.

Exactly...out coach it and take advantage.

The trap is boring, but sometimes effective. However, Pronger, teams have found ways to win against it. I cannot even BELIEVE he complained about this his first game back. Is Philly just expecting to win every game?

Bang on. You can anticipate another team's gameplan all you want, but if you can't stick to your own or adapt it to an in-game situation, your team has some serious issues.

Not with that goaltending...or with 15 shots on goal for that matter.

Sorry Prongs they could sit five wide in deck chairs on their blue-line. The Flyers were the ones stalling.

I was watching the game and was more annoyed with the Flyers skating around instead of attacking then I was with the Lightning sitting back. I heard the commentators talking and they said who is at fault. So then I thought to myself, hmmmm maybe it is the Lightining that are making this bad. Then Pierre McGuire started talking and said that he thinks it's the Lightning and he got texted by 5 players blaming the Lighning. I then realized my initial reaction of it being the Flyers was correct.

Shut up and play, Chris.

Whose fault is it that PMG is still on the air anywhere? Is it NBC for giving him his current job, or TSN for employing him previously?

For those of you that didn't witness the thrills....

The Broad Street Bullies must be weeping.

Is "C" all of the above an option in this question? PMG is one of the reasons my mute button is worn out.

The Rangers had 17 shots last night and you don't see them complaining.

My favorite part of his "commentating" was saying the league should look into how the Ligntning are playing. You are now going to tell teams what defensive styles they can play. Get real. So if a team is up by 4, they will have to attack the team to give that other team a chance to score. OK. That makes sense. I am so annoyed that NBC/VS/NBC Sports hired this guy.

And in Canada we're still giggling like school girls. :-)

I'm glad I missed that. So the NHL should look into a team not breaking any rules and not doing anything worthy of a penalty? What exactly would he like them to do?

It's BS. I would have loved to have seen a delay of game call on Philly. In my mind, the team with the puck has the duty to advance with it.

On a side note, you have to laugh just thinking about the look that must've been on Bettman's face as he watched this. I'm picturing an expression akin to Beavis and Butthead while watching a Kenny G video...

Off the cuff so to speak the announcers were throwing out ideas like one forward on D has to be skating forward or attacking the puck, or something like that. I was laughing. Pronger skating in circles because he can't break the trap wasn't the problem, it was the defense. With the no touching allowed on D anymore I thought the trap was dead, but because Chrissy doesn't like it, he makes a mockery of the game.

If nothing else it makes for a nice chirp on Pronger for opposing teams, no?

Here is what is on TSN from Bob Mckenzie

The Lightning are playing something called the neutral zone trap, it's only been around as long as the game itself," explained McKenzie. "Now all of a sudden Peter Laviolette orchestrates something that says if they aren't going to play aggressive we aren't going to play aggressive and we're in front of your home fans so let's see how you like that. Let's let this play out and see how it goes."
