Zetterberg on Tampa Bay's trap: 'Hilarious'

08:23 AM ET 11.11 | What one columnist referred to as a "ludicrous spectacle" on Thursday evening is drawing laughter in NHL dressing rooms, too. Henrik Zetterberg saw highlights of the Flyers and Lightning just standing around on the ice Wednesday, waiting for each other to make a move. "Hilarious," said Zetterberg. Tampa Bay was sitting in a 1-3-1 neutral-zone trap; Philadelphia kept the puck in its zone until the referee stopped play. "It was a good way to show how boring it could be if the other team doesn't do anything," Zetterberg said. "That's the way we played in Sweden 10, 12 years ago. A 1-3-1, really strict, and the game became really boring. "With the skill we have in this league, you shouldn't be able to play that way."

Implying that those who play that way don't have skills...

The Flyers are stupid. Come up with a way to beat the trap, don't pout and just stand there.
The Flyers should have got a penalty for delay of game.

Lemaire had some good lines about it as well
I laugh at it this because are we supposed to coach as we please the people who are announcing the games or make comments on the games? Is that a new style or what? Do we have to please Milbury when we coach? It's the first time I hear of this."
"I don't have advice to give to anybody. The style we played when I coached, people were criticizing the way we played. well, it's their job. That's all they do. They have the mike. They have their comments on it, and some guys with the mike try to coach. They couldn't coach so they go behind the mike because they couldn't find a way to win. So, it's no big deal."

And one more quote from Lemaire
"It didn't look good to me when I saw the Flyers stop playing. What does it show? What is the coach showing to his players, that I don't like the way they play, so we won't play? The Flyers have a good team, they've got to play."

I'll agree with the first part, but the Flyers didn't freeze the puck. Tampa could have come to get it any time they wanted.

I am NOT giving this topic a second day of life. I hope Tampa plays the trap all season, bores the hell out of the few fans they have so they stop showing up, and they move the team to Hamilton.
Hell, the trap very well may wind up saving hockey after all!

The one thing I loved about Lemaire outside of his helping the Devils win their first cup where his press conferences. He always had something to say, and it was usually witty.

jee wizz, i thought it was just us whiny Flyer fans that had a beef with TB's 0-4-1 style. This must be a misprint or something.

It's been pointed out before...it's like telling an NFL defense you can't play prevent. There are ways to beat any defense, the trap included. When you get past it about 3 times the opposing coach is going to change his defensive scheme in a hurry. Quit crying and concentrate on a solution....you're supposed to be professionals for God's sake.

I don't want to add fuel to the fire Cromster but Bobby Mac from TSN polled some GMs and 13 out of 18 blamed TB.
Hint - Stevie Y wasn't one of them. ;-)

The trap is boring and cowardly, but the league isn't going to do anything about it. Moving on.

100 % Agreed. One day of this regardless of what side one was on was enough. If we are lucky a certain new "Tool" that emerged in the pack yesterday will now go back to whatever litter box he came out of.

Good for the Flyers. The Pens did that also during the playoffs but it wasn't as long and play didn't get stopped. You can trap and still pursue the puck.
