08:42 AM ET 11.12 | The aftermath of the Tampa Bay Lightning-Philadelphia Flyers still life Wednesday night is still reverberating in the hallways of rinks and the NHL offices. The circumstance where two teams decide not to play the game -- hey, the Columbus Blue Jackets are actually trying -- is expected to be discussed next week when the NHL's general managers are in Toronto for the Hall of Fame proceedings. "I haven't seen a final agenda, but I'm sure it will be a hot topic," one senior executive said. "But the last thing I want to see is something implemented quickly. You want to make sure if you do something -- and I'm not sure we need to do anything -- is make sure whatever you do is going to have a long-lasting, positive effect on the game."

"The circumstance where two teams decide not to play the game -- hey, the Columbus Blue Jackets are actually trying(...)"
Nasty line.
And I don't like the idea of the suits implementing something on the fly because of one instance of a team not wanting to play.

My thoughts exactly Stranger. Tampa hasn't won anything employing this type of trap and I doubt the whole league is going to start mimicking them. While the Flyer fans are defending their team for not playing, I see it as lame. It's not an unbeatable system nor does it give Tampa an unfair advantage.
As I said yesterday, when you play the Lightning stay out of the penalty box, throw the puck down low and forecheck like hell making their inadequate D-men pay the price and your chances of beating them are excellent.
This much ado about nothing.

How the hell you gonna out law a formation?
This isn't like prior to the lockout when removing the red line and allowing two-line passes played a big role.

Thats how you would beat it in a long playoff series. Simply wear down their defense.
In a single game, either attack with speed or dump it in on the goalie, with lots of hang time, so you can get right in on the goalie and force a face-off or a bad decision.

I agree. The Leafs have "not played" for six years and nothings been done.

That's my question too. Last I looked the Bolts were 8-5-2 and 8th in the Eastern Conference. What's the biggie?
By the way is the 1-3-1 impossible to stick handle around?

You confuse "not wanting to play" with "cannot play".

But the way the Flyer fans are complaining you would think the Lightning are undefeated and no one has scored on them. Their version of the trap was unbeatable I thought.

He seems to have the goal scoring celebration down pat even though he doesn't use it much.

The NHL should not apologize for a 2-1 game. I'll take that over a 7-5 'er.

As long as its a wide open game, I'll agree with you.

The Flyers just look like a bunch of cry-babies here.
Boucher is pushing the game of hockey forward with a "new" defense strategy. It's called innovation. It's up to the opposing coaches (yes, you Mr Laviolette) to find a way to beat the system.
Hockey coaches should watch other sports, especially soccer and basketball. A lot for them to learn in there.
