Cubs, Red Sox chasing same candidate?

08:16 AM ET 11.14 | The pool of candidates from which to choose a new manager remains a somewhat shallow one. As the Red Sox and Cubs interviewed many of the same candidates for manager, the possibility existed that they would end up trying to hire the same guy. The possibility is growing stronger. Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum is scheduled for a second interview with the Red Sox this week, according to major league sources. Sveum will meet with Sox general manager Ben Cherington and ownership representatives at the GM/owners' meetings in Milwaukee. However, he remains high on the Cubs' list, sources say. It is not known whether the Red Sox plan to conduct second interviews with any of their four other candidates.

That sounds like a good fit and would be a great catch for the Cubbies. Boston wishes they had a chance to interview him, but Mike took himself out of the selection process for Fenway.

Since you're predicting... Sandy Alomar to the Red Sox.

Given their line-up, I'd take "broken empire" any day. No major surgery needed; just a few additions (pitchers, RF, espirit de corp) and a few swift kicks in the buttocks.
