08:30 AM ET 11.14 | The Sabres are under fire. [Buffalo] got savaged in the North American media and on the Internet on Sunday for not responding to Milan Lucic's bulldozing of Ryan Miller on Saturday night in Boston. They apparently heard about it in strong terms as well from coach Lindy Ruff and General Manager Darcy Regier during a meeting Sunday in the Bell Centre. And things took on a much more ominous tone later in the evening, when Regier told The Buffalo News that Miller has a concussion and will be out an undetermined period. ... Any concussion is serious, given the increased emphasis on their diagnosis and treatment by the NFL and NHL. But Miller's is of particular concern because it's his second in eight months.

Lucic is a punk. He lost control of the puck, and could have let up. Instead, he did just as described...bulldozed Miller. Wonder if Lucic will be fined and/or suspended for such carelessness. However, I doubt it.

Suspended? Nah, Shanny has decided it is open season on goalies.

I found the lack of response by the Sabres to be disappointing. Where is Andrew Peters when you need him (google Peters v Emery)

This we will agree. Shanny set the precedent this year re: open season on goalies.

I do think that goalies will become "open season," when they come out outside their crease, around the net, etc. However, I also feel other players have a responsibility not to be so careless in their hits on them or other players. This hit COULD HAVE and SHOULD HAVE been avoided, regardless of where Miller was placed/standing.

The hit speaks for itself.....

....but the announcers are hilarious.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. I mentioned it before (about Lucic) and was chided for it. Lucic, while certainly not in the upper echelon of the p***ks in the league, is a rather adept cheap shot artists. Out of the crease, this olde goalie belives you take you chances. It is a game of hitting after all. But the rash of goalies getting rammend in the crease , (Lundqvist gets hit rather regularly) has to stop, and this would be a good message to send now

I am waiting for the insults. I don't care. Bring them. I get them a lot. I agree, Lucic is not the Creme Da La Punks. He is walking the fine line though. This has added to his resume. He sees Miller is coming out to move the puck away. He could have chose to skate around him, but decided to take him out. And for what purpose? To get the puck and score? LOL!

It's happening more and more frequently and it's unnecessary in all respects. Lucic ought to be suspended. The hit could have and should have been avoided. The Sabres on the other hand acted as though it was a Cub Scout meeting.

Waaaaahhhh!!!!

Miller was 25 feet from his crease and got run over for his troubles.

That'll learn him.

November 14, 2011  09:40 AM ET

And what does Ryan Miller think?

November 14, 2011  09:40 AM ET

Apparently the Buffalo players didn't mind seeing their goaler get steamrolled too much, eh?

I disagree Slappy.

Cub Scouts have more guts.

Speaking as a goalie, Lucic is a **** punk ass idiot.

If it was Tim Thomas, you wouldn't be saying that.

November 14, 2011  09:44 AM ET

BTW, I have a hard time believing that that hit gave Miller a concussion. I'd say it's more likely that the cobwebs never fully cleared from his last one making this one of the accumulation deals.

Stay in your crease where you belong and he won't hurt you.

From the rule book:

"A goalkeeper is not "fair game" just because he is outside the goal crease. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an attacking player makes unnecessary contact with the goalkeeper. However, incidental contact will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such unnecessary contact."

Also:

"In all cases in which an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, whether or not the goalkeeper is inside or outside the goal crease, and whether or not a goal is scored, the attacking player will receive a penalty (minor or major, as the Referee deems appropriate."

Throughout the rule book, it says a goalie cannot be hit, even if he is outside the crease. It is a myth that a goalie becomes a player when he leaves his crease.

Not if some **** like Lucic piles you over.
