08:36 AM ET 11.16 | The Rangers, still in the C.J. Wilson sweepstakes, have reportedly given his agent every indication that they plan to be serious about returning him to Texas. Bob Garber dined Tuesday evening with Rangers assistant general manager Thad Levine and director of baseball operations Matt Vinnola in what Garber called a "productive meeting." The process is still in its early stages, and Garber isn't giving away any state secrets that have popped up so far during the annual end-of-year general managers meetings. It's become clear Wilson doesn't want to leave the Rangers but is prepared to do so if they don't make the right offer. The market is projected to be a minimum of five years, and a team that offers six could win the bidding.

Cashman had better make a move soon. The Yanks need to lock this guy up and they go after Roy Oswalt if they want a chance at getting past the frist round in the 2012 playoffs.

What in the heck does this have to do with CJ Wilson ?

November 16, 2011  09:12 AM ET

Of course the Rangers will try to keep him but not at stupid money.

November 16, 2011  09:17 AM ET

No way do the Angels and Yankees let CJ stay here. He is one of 3 starting pitchers on the market this offseason worth anything. Burhelle, CJ, and Oswalt.

November 16, 2011  09:24 AM ET

The question should be if Texas doesn't sign him, who do they replace him with????

November 16, 2011  09:30 AM ET

I think Nolan Ryan proved when he hammered Robin Ventura, that he can probably win a fight with most anyone in baseball.

....my sources tell me the rangers will end up with darvish and wilson, with darvish polishing up at round rock until half year mark.....yanks and red sox money cannot compete with big oil, who usually get what they want....

I heard the Rangers have decided not to show that fight on the big screen when the White Sox visit Arlington. Too bad. After A-rod standing with his bat on his shoulder for the last out of the ALCS last year that is my favorite Rangers moment.

November 16, 2011  09:39 AM ET

I really want to facelift bar, wonder where I can do that????

Or - stupid years.

If it's going to take 6 years to sign him, I wish him well with his future endeavors.

November 16, 2011  09:54 AM ET

Of course they are saying they want to keep him, but they will not put big money down for five years for the guy. That post season stuff he did has not been forgiven in Ryans mind. 0-3 and almost a 6.00 ERA?
They need to save some of that money to keep those hitters in a few years.

November 16, 2011  10:17 AM ET

People mention Wilson not having a great post season....so what, he can learn to do well once he's been in enough games like that. Besides, Verlander didn't get it done either...doesn't make either guy a bad risk in my mind. The question is what is the realistic value of this guy?

Well I guess when you can't win a championship, you have to hold on to something.

True that, he blew on a Barney Frank level in the postseason -- you're supposed to do well there to garner the BIG bucks...........

That is what the big bucks are for. Cliff Lee and his regular season stats are fine, but it was his post season record that got him that contract.

It was plain to see everytime he stepped on the mound during the post season dollars bills were flying out of his ****.
