Angels president hostile to Houston's move

08:24 AM ET 11.17 | On the surface, playing the Astros 18 times a year would seem to benefit teams in the AL West, such as the Angels. Houston had a record of 56-106 last season, traded its best player, outfielder Hunter Pence, to Philadelphia and appears several years away from playoff contention. "I don't look at it that way," said Angels President John Carpino. ... "Every team goes through ups and downs, and in three or four years the Astros could look different. Carpino didn't say he's opposed to the Astros' move, but he is clearly lukewarm on the idea. The Astros are not a natural draw in Anaheim, and Carpino doesn't like having to travel two time zones away to play another division opponent.

I'm not too happy about the move either. Something seems wrong with the Astros being an AL team.
That said, I will be happy to see the two leagues balanced again.

But it's perfectly fine for the Rangers to have to travel 2 times zones for every road division game. What a d--k!

No offense but it should have been Milwaukee that moved - not Houston!

100% agree. What a close-minded viewpoint! Dude, you have been reaping the gravy for over a decade of playing in a 4 team division while everyone else has 5, and the NL central has 6.

But previously being the owner of the Brewers I bet he had the ear of the current owners who most likely were against it. I'm just speculating.

I remember when the Astros used to be a respectable franchise. Now they are on the bottom rung and being kicked around like so much Expo

The only part of the move that bothers me is that this will start inter-league play all season.

Wonderful
So your team can miss the Title or WC because it's interleague schedule was against contenders, and your rivals wasn't.
Play 162 games and lose because of an inbalanced schedule. Makes sense to me.

You know my stance on this...Its the biggest farce in sports.....My team blows right now so it doesn't really matter....but when were fighting for the division or wildcard and we get the Yankees 6 times and the Phillies get the Orioles or the Braves get the Royals ...I just don't get why it can't be done like the NFL...each year you rotate what divsion you play and everyone in your divisioan plays the same teams.....

Because that makes too much sense.
If you have to have it, even the playing field.

Not really. Not that it will happen in our lifetime but having them in the same league eliminates any possibility that you could have an all Texas world series. There is no other state that has multiple teams that doesn't split them in both leagues.

As a related issue, why can't a decision be made about the DH. Keep it for everyone or get rid of it. How stupid is playing with 2 sets of rules?
