Rivers may only have himself to blame

08:01 AM ET 11.18 | Philip Rivers may not be getting topnotch protection, but he's reportedly not making the most of his options, either. [A] lot of his struggles are because he's trying to force plays that aren't available. Rivers leads the NFL with 15 interceptions, and according to a source, the former Pro Bowler is passing up good throws to try and make great ones. That was the case in Week 10, when instead of throwing to Antonio Gates over the middle for what would have been a 10-yard completion, he threw to a double-covered Vincent Jackson in the endzone on a pass that was picked off. On several occasions this season, Rivers has passed up open targets in an attempt to force bigger plays down the field.

Rivers spent the offseason watching game tape of He Who Shall Remain Nameless.

Rivers is just trying to emulate Aaron Rogers by threading the ball. Unfortunately he's threading it to defenders successfully.

Rodgers plays for his head coach. Rivers has to overcome his.

Rivers is over-rated. Not a top tier candidate.

I thought it was Norv's fault.

Norv Turner before San Diego and Philip Rivers 58-82-1, with San Diego and Philip Rivers 45-28. Looks to me as if Philip Rivers may be getting tired of carrying Norv and making his record look better. Get a coach that can run a team any other way than into the ground.

I did pick Newton. With the next to last pick. I was laughed at. They aren't laughing now.

That's the truth. The fact of the matter is that Norv Turner and AJ Smith took a great team and turned it into a mediocre one.

Rivers is struggling this year, no doubt. But I'd take him any day over a lot of smuks in the NFL. This kid has guts, he plays hurt when other wouldn't even suit up, he leads and is a field general. He's just having an off year, it happens. This kid is in the top 5 or 6 QB's in the league. I can remember him gutting it out on one leg verses NE while LT sat on the bence with a towel over his head ala Hollywood Henderson. I'd take Rivers on my team any day, this kid is a throwback
