Collins keeping Thanksgiving open for NBA

08:12 AM ET 11.18 | Thanksgiving remains Doug Collins favorite holiday even in a lockout. This year, Collins' Thanksgiving plans are up in the air. His wife Kathy is headed to Hawaii for the holiday because Duke is playing in this year's Maui Invitational. Collins' son Chris is a longtime assistant to Mike Krzyzewski, and he and his family will be in Maui for the eight-team tournament. With the NBA lockout now 140 days old and negotiations ceasing, it would seem the ideal time for Collins to make the nearly 5,000 mile journey to be with his family on Turkey Day. But he won't, because he is the eternal optimist. "I think somewhere along the line we are all going to understand the importance of playing," Collins said.

Collins keeping Thanksgiving open for NBA

I usually don't plan my holidays a year in advance but I don't have this man's schedule so I presume he knows best.

Unless I read wrong... ain't all the games up until Dec 15th canceled already?

Go watch your kid play Doug. It will probably be the first genuine game of basketball you'll get to see this year. You might even get to remember what a real basketball game was like back when you played

I think going to Maui would be a safe bet at this point. Even if an agreement were somehow made today, I can't imagine any activity being allowed to commence within 7 days. Plus even operations were allowed to start on Monday, I'm pretty sure he can afford to cancel the ticket.
