Phillies could use Bonds on bench

08:18 AM ET 11.18 | Along with assistant hitting coach Mike Aldrete, Mark McGwire was credited for a good deal of late-season success from Cardinals hitters. Under new coach Mike Matheny, McGwire is returning to St. Louis, a forgiving market that has suited him well. So here's the question: Would you dust off Barry Bonds if you could? If he was available, and not too expensive, would you hire him to work with your hitters about working the count? Because steroids or no steroids, those two were probably the two best of their time at getting their pitch to hit. ... [Greg Gross] simply doesn't have that same kind of "do as I once did" currency that McGwire or someone like Bonds would. Don't like Bonds? Me neither. So let's find someone else.

WOW!!!

Slow sports day in Philly, I guess.

I would let Barry have his way with me for a night if it meant the Phils would actually become good hitters.

I'm in shock. Why hasn't anyone else been banned from MLB like Pete Rose?

November 18, 2011  08:34 AM ET

Believe it or not, I think Bonds would be a good hitting coach. If it doesn't work out he could always juice with the players and show them how to hide it.

I think that's what McGwire is doing

I think that the Pete Rose thing was totally personal. If they (MLB) tried that today it wouldn't work because of the litigation and the bad press MLB would receive.

The thought of this makes me want to puke

Perhaps because Pete broke the "Golden Rule" that was posted in every clubhouse, at the time?????

Do us all a favor and stop "thinking"

I don't do favors. Don't talk to me unless you are willing to do one for me and just be quiet. Thx.

We all know he belongs in Cooperstown.

November 18, 2011  08:54 AM ET

First of all, in all seriousness, Bonds could not be a coach because he has zero people skills.

November 18, 2011  08:58 AM ET

spoiled, lazy, dot it the wrong way bonds? .....phillies are setting themselves up for an even bigger disaster this coming year it seems to me and other insiders, if they were to go this route.......

I wouldn't go that far, but I do think it was personal. As for the Rose thing there are no winners when he is involved.

I won't be quiet but perhaps I can just stop talking to you?

He does belong in Cooperstown, but he doesn't belong in baseball.

Dust this guy off? Leave him under his cloak of shame. He is throughly unlikeable. Not a communicator. He only likes the brothers. Why even bring him up?

Ok. I am sorry. I am sure you're a lovely person. I will not think anymore :(

I will agree with that.
