07:31 AM ET 11.19 | Just as Amare Stoudemire told HOOPSWORLD and other members of the media last month, Billy Hunter believes that a new, player-owned basketball league is something the Players' trade association (no longer a union) will have to consider. While speaking in front of a panel with NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith, Hunter addressed the current NBA lockout and explained some of the Players' options. "Maybe we can start our own league," said Hunter, as quoted by Marcel Mutoni and Tour?? of SLAM. "There are (facilities) where we can do that. Can't play at MSG but can play at St John's. "There's talk of getting a TV deal and creating a new league but it'd have to be with a network that's unafraid to cross the NBA," he continued.

Players own league, lol, that would be funny, it wont get NBA fans support or lifestyle. I would support NBA with players who want to play and enjoy basketball at A-Class comfort and facilties, not professional leisure. Not at local college campus.

They can but then the split will be 100-0.

If I was a great player coming out of college I WOULD NOT go to a sidekick players league. I would go to NBA draft and be on national stage and live a great life in luxury. The agents would ship and go with NBA because they are greedy too!!!

QUOTE(#7):

They can - if they agree to dissolve the union AND the contracts of all the players who create this new league. Obviously, they cannot keep their NBA contracts if they start their own league. In fact, that's the big psychological hurdle for them. Let's say you're a star player with a small family to support. You're making a couple million dollars a year and have the security of knowing that you will bring in the $$ for the next 5-8 years. Do you throw that all away to start a new league, not knowing how much you'll make, and also knowing that you may be burning your bridges with the NBA forever ? If you have guts, you'll do it, but a lot of people in this situation would simply go back to the security of the NBA.

They couldn't even put together a charity man, mantaining a league is laughable. Yea they technically could, but my prediction is it would fail in a year like the xfl

Lebron and his posse can step up and run it.
