08:12 AM ET 11.19 | One of the things that has given many Eagles fans some solace during this ugly 3-6 start has been the hope that, while their team may not make the playoffs this season, they'll finally be rid of Andy Reid. Surely, there is no way Reid returns if their slide into oblivion continues, right? Surely, owner Jeff Lurie will call him into his office after the season and cut the cord, right? Wrong.

they'll finally be rid of Andy Reid.

I don't know a single Eagles fan who wanted to "be rid of Andy Reid" going into this season.

Let's put it this way...

Find me another head coach who can get solid passing numbers out of Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb.

Key words, "Going into this Season" Just shows you what a bad season will do.

The league is full of coaches who can do that. Heck, harbaugh is getting good numbers outta Alex Smith. It can happen, pretty easily too.

IMO, it shows how much power the media has.

They churn out story after story for months until the entire nation feels like Andy Reid has been sitting on the hot seat for over a decade.

When the fact of the matter is, the only opinion that matters if Jeffrie Lurie's.

Agreed. The media also convinced folks that Kevin Kolb was a top free agent QB last off-season.

The Eagles made out like Bandits on that one, they should THANK the media in that case.

The guy is a good coach, always was. difference is he has not replaced his assistant coaches well enough. That is what happens to any team that is successful over time.
You are right, the owner has always been his biggest fan.

Better the devil you know being the operative phrase here?

Think about the coaches before Andy Reid and this is an easy answer.

But in recent years they have taken all those extra draft picks, got too cute by half, moved around up and down thinking they were smarter than everybody else and ended up with mediocrity.
That is why they HAD to hit FA so hard.
