08:03 AM ET 11.25 | Kyle Orton's return is nearly guaranteed, after all -- though as a member of the Chiefs. Orton didn't arrive in Kansas City in time to practice with his teammates Thursday. Haley, who said he had spoken with Orton over the phone, indicated Orton would join the Chiefs today. "He had a couple personal things he had to attend to," Haley said. Haley said Tyler Palko would start Sunday night's game against Pittsburgh at Arrowhead Stadium but said Orton could be available as a backup. Orton could be ready to start the Dec. 4 game against the Bears in Chicago. "Our goal will be to assimilate him as quickly as possible into our system," offensive coordinator Bill Muir said.

Resistance is futile. He will be assimilated. Weird choice of words.

Should be an interesting game if he does start against them. He knows how they play defensively, but he's had so little time to work with his new team.

They did when he was waived... Should have tried harder before it came to that.

Bears were 30th in line to pick up any player on waivers...chiefs were something like 25th or so...kind of hard to trade for him since they both need Qbs.......

The trade deadline has come and past. The only way to get a player who's currently on a team is to claim him off of waivers or wait for him to clear waivers prior to signing him. Cutler just got hurt and there was no reason to have Orton on this team when Cutler was healthy. I don't know of 1 team in the league that has 4 healthy QBs; waste of 2 roster spots.

I agree, but I guess the Chiefs have nothing to lose at this point. If Orton's not getting it done by 1/2 time....out comes the hook!

Then again if something were to happen to Palko against the Steelers.....what then? I sense a bloodbath!

I sympathize with Kyle. I am sure he was hoping to go to a team and city he knows, Chicago, that is in prime position to make the playoffs. Instead he will be beaten to a pulp behind the lame KC offensive line.

At the time of the trade deadline, the Bears didn't need him. When would you have wanted them to trade 4 him?
