Flyers undone down by shaky goaltending

08:30 AM ET 11.25 | On Wednesday, Sergei Bobrovsky relieved Ilya Bryzgalov after he allowed three goals on nine first-period shots. Once again, goaltending remains a puzzle. [Bryzgalov] has been up and down and had a recent five-game stretch that seemed to suggest he had gotten his game back. Yet over the last two games, he's looked pedestrian. [Bobrovsky] has bailed him out a few times and saved two points for the Flyers at the Island with late heroics. Overall, the Flyers' goaltending numbers are very poor, but taken in smaller recent amounts, it's far better than it was. ... Right now, both Bryzgalov and Bobrovsky have save percentages under .900, which won't cut it for a team with Stanley Cup ambitions.

Is it too early to start saying, "I told you so"?

November 25, 2011  09:19 AM ET

How much was that contract again?

November 25, 2011  09:24 AM ET

Mr Holmgren..there's an envelope in the office for you.

I told you so!

hmm lemme see. eastern conference standings... 1st place Pittsburgh, 2nd florida, 3rd Boston (who actually has less points than...) 4th Philly. with a game or 2 in hand on all the above teams. Yes we have been completely undone by our abysmal goal tending. SO MUCH FOR THE SEASON....

That is exactly what I thought when I saw the headline. Philly is where good goaltenders go to die and bad goaltenders get buried.

No it isn't. But, you must admit that, when it comes to goaltenders, there seems to be a Pelle Lindbergh curse in Philly.

Usually I'd agree ...but I think Philly will be fine. Just a feeling..but I think they'll get it together. It's wayyyyy too early to write Bryz off just yet.

Like sands through the hourglass..

the saga continues.

C'mon man goaltending was supposed to be your strong suit this season..you need good goaltending in the play-offs..well probably not..you just need a goalie that wont blow it for you...and these 2 goalies suck right now.

Exactly. Bryz was supposed to be a brick wall. Instead you have Bobky coming in and bailing them out. For how much they are paying him they should be getting better goaltending.
