Didn't the Red Sox allow Farrell to interview with the Jays when he was the pitching coach?
Sometimes being nice bites you in the arse.

He has two years left on his contract. If they really want him then you give them Clay Buchholz. No reason for the Blue Jays to play nice with the Red Sox.

I agree. I don't want to see Buchholz gone, but that's the way things are.

All teams do that. It was not a lateral move. Cannot think of any team that stopped anyone from moving up to manage a MLB team.
But no team has ever just let their manager walk away to manage another team, while under contract, without compensation.

I wouldn't give them Bobby Jenks for John Farrell.

What's so great about Farell that you would give up a starting pitcher for him? This is Boston Globe nonsense...

I say give them whatever generous compensation the Bosox have coming from the Cubbies for Theo. Works for me! :-P
Jays can have Buchholz' used jock strap. Otherwise... forgetaboutit!

I'm sure the Boston trio asked. And I'm sure Jays' management gave them this non-starter offer in return.
As was stated above... It's one thing to go from pitching coach at team A to manager at team B. It's quite something else for a lateral move like this when a manager is under contract. It just doesn't happen unless said manager suks. And looking at how Boston's pitching staff imploded after Farrell's departure, you can see his value.

Hoos, they weren't that great with Farrell. Beckett sucked, Dice K sucked and Pappelbon had his worst years under Farrell. Blue Jays can have him.

I agree and understand, but they could have countered with a raise, promise to interview if Francona left (fired), more responsibilities, etc. It's tough to let someone go to a division rival, then a year later want him back as your manager.

And they could even keep Farrell!

I gotta smile when I consider the parallels to the Sox letting Epstein go to the Cubs before compensation was settled.

ok, stipulate that they would also have to keep Farrell.

farrell its not the one who would like to come to boston, the sox and the GM ask about farrell if they could get him as the red sox manager, but yes its difficult but they have to give something in exchange for that manager, all what the red sox can said its to decline jays demands!!
