White Sox kicking tires on Alonso

09:31 AM ET 11.27 | Can Yonder Alonso become a solid left fielder? That's the question the White Sox are studying as the Reds shop the left-handed-hitting slugger for pitching. Alonso would be blocked with Paul Konerko at first base and Adam Dunn as designated hitter, although if the Sox really are willing to let Mark Buehrle walk you wonder if they also would approach Konerko about waiving his no-trade clause.

He is " blocked " by Dunn, a .159 DH? Can you get any lower?

Cincinnati has a few holes to fill, and Alonso might bring in a piece or two.

Seems to me Tampa would be a good fit, as they need a first baseman, and have lots of pitching to offer.

The White Sox are a mess. Locked in on a DH that is below the Mendoza line, apparently willing to let a team icon (Buerhle) leave, no viable leadoff hitter, no decent centerfielder, holes in the infield, holes in the bullpen, a high payroll and a losing record last season.

How the hell does Kenny Williams keep his job?

How did you get your hands on their scouting report?

Ha. Oh, and a rookie manager that another team's owner punked on the pitcher's mound.

Actually they have no holes in the infield and bullpen.

That means what? Nothing.

Not a WS fan but do you really thing Dunn will duplicate last years performance? I think he needs a new hitting coach, but that year was totally out of character.

November 27, 2011  02:06 PM ET

I believe he can play 3rd as well. Maybe sox can get some prospects

November 27, 2011  02:09 PM ET

this type of roster would be a great challenge for the new manager ventura!!

November 27, 2011  02:11 PM ET

then again, its allways better that the organization place you in a stiff hill than give you everything without any grade of difficulty!!

November 27, 2011  02:13 PM ET

in that way ventura, and everybody from the white sox franchise can't say it was a easy task, or a easy goal to achieve!!

November 27, 2011  02:34 PM ET

Alonso in left and the tank in right. Sox better get a fast center fielder and find someone to take Rios. If they can dump him and if Carlos is traded then buerhle maybe resigned. Especially if danks or Floyd is part of a trade this winter

I have a feeling the Pale Hose might surprise a lot of people this year.

I thought that last year. Boy, was I wrong.

Well, the fact that Ryan smoked Ventura doesn't really mean anything. But, Ventura as a major league manager? I'm skeptical. Very skeptical. He may do fine, but there will be some bumps. Any first-year manager has issues to work out and lessons to learn.

And I would agree that the bullpen is solid, but who is the closer? Seems they weren't 100 percent sold on Santos last year. But I would agree that overall, it is solid.

But the infield? Beckham was a big disappointment last year, right? Morel wasn't anything to write home about, was he?

did dunn had difficult to learn the american league? burrell come from the phillies to the rays, and he was unable to produce as a hitter, the rays let him walk way then he went to play with the giants where he was able to hit homeruns singles, doubles, and he contribute with the team, in the american league couldn't hit, couldn't do a thing, in the national league he felt as if he was at home, dunn could be facing the same type of problem, could it be mentall problem? could it be mechanics problem?

November 27, 2011  03:24 PM ET

the 2012 season would be a big test for dunn, in terms of hitting, in terms of driving runs, in terms of carrying the team in his shoulder, if he does that? the WS would be in better spot than last season!!
