Norv may take fall for Smith

08:06 AM ET 11.29 | The seat under Norv Turner will only get hotter in the coming weeks. [If] this season continues in this fashion, he will most certainly lose his job. But the bigger question is: What becomes of General Manager A.J. Smith? Turner has lost valuable members of his staff, like Ron Rivera and Rob Chudzinski (both now in Carolina), and Smith has allowed a lot of talent to leave in the past few years and failed to replace it. Moving up in the first round for Ryan Mathews has not panned out yet, and recent drafts have been lean; he has never replaced LaDainian Tomlinson, Darren Sproles, Shawne Merriman, Jamaal Williams, Antonio Cromartie, to name a few ... and the roster is not nearly as deep as it was a few years back.

Norv should TAKE THE FALL!!

November 29, 2011  08:58 AM ET

I don't think the seat under Norv can get any hotter. It's been warming up for a few seasons now.

The seat under A.J. Smith should be pretty warm too. Time for the Spanos family to clean house.

NORV should have never been given the opportunity to take the fall......he has never been more than a very good coordinator! Smith should be right behind him!!!

Why was Marty Schottenheimer fired again?

How is AJ Smith gonna get to come back? Draft bust after draft bust usually gets you fired. Mathews, English, Bust(er) Davis.

Norv has been like the frog in a pan of water that is slowly brought to boiling.

I think Norv and A.J. both need to go. No reason it should be either/or, unless, of course, you're content with slipping from mediocrity to "just plain sucks" and staying there.

And, San Diego might just be fine with that.

A.J. did not want him. Period. There is no fix in SD until Smith is out of there.

Don't forget Drew Brees on that list too. Phillip Rivers might be great AT TIMES, but Brees is much better. Damn I wish L.T. would've gone to the Saints instead of the Jets. Could've been a Super Bowl Champion along with Brees.

L.T. hitched his wagon to the wrong star to get a ring.

I'm so glad LT didn't go to the Saints... going to an underachieving, win nothing, loud mouth Jets team is just where he belongs... couldn't happen to a whinier guy.

Never should have let Brees go....beginning of the end

November 29, 2011  09:52 AM ET

I can't say a thing about Smith not knowing if rebuilding is going on or what but I do know that Norv Turner is not the answer and instead of jumping on Tebow mania, I'm one who things the Chargers coaches and the pee pore play calling in overtime lost the game for the Chargers.
The head coach is the ultimate buck stopper here and should be canned, now.

Evreybody is on why was Shottenheimer fired? It wasn't because he had a big contractr renewal coming up and Norv was the cheapo date was it? I mean they did let all the high priced people go. Is there a money issue here. If I was a fan I would stay home from the games and let the owner stew over lost revenue to get back at him

November 29, 2011  10:00 AM ET

The decent thing for Norv to do would be to hold AJs hand and jump off the cliff together. In an embrace.

November 29, 2011  10:00 AM ET

And the blame game starts in San Diego.

November 29, 2011  10:05 AM ET

If Sproles was still there, I think they would be in first place. Whose fault is that?
