Cross big bat off the list, Giants fans

08:15 AM ET 11.30 | Yes, Giants GM Brian Sabean uttered the term "big splash" Tuesday, but only as a guide as to what the Giants won't be making this offseason. [Don't] expect Prince Fielder, Albert Pujols or Jose Reyes to rescue the worst offense in the National League. Quite the opposite, actually. In a conference call to announce contract extensions for Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy, the Giants' top decision makers were in lockstep: They plan to earmark most their money for their "gold standard" pitching staff, then use the remainder to improve a team that scored the fewest runs in the NL last season. "There won't be any big splash," Sabean said. "Our pitching is our gold standard. We have to make sure we take care of that commodity first."

Follow the Angels plan?

What you're doing is wasting that commodity. Lincecum will be a Red Sox in 2014.

Cain will be in pinstripes in 2013.

and Bruce will be a Cubbie?

My, we're a cynical bunch today! I hope you're all wrong ... but I have a sinking feeling ...

The downside of winning a World Series is it made that moron Sabean think his ridiculous personnel decisions were works of genius.

Sign someone who can hit the damn ball!

Perhaps becasue their ballpark is the size of Yosemite. No power hitter will sign there unless of course they open the San Francisco Mint which Giant management won't do.

Move the fences in 20 feet and it will be amazing how much better Giant hitters become. Of course, Giant pitchers will regress. Pick your poison.

And get hurt, old, or suck in a hurry. Sometimes all three.

Only way it's a mega deal is if one of the Giant front line starters are included. If that's the case, Texas will regret that decsion real quickly.

Dumb, dumb, dumb move by the Giants.

November 30, 2011  11:31 AM ET

Oh, and Cabrerra for Sanchez...ha!

With Posey healthy and one of Belt, Pill, or Crawford hitting well, the team doesn't need a Fielder or Pujols (thought that would be nice). The pitching is so good the team could win 90+ games with only 3.5 runs per game.

The point is Fielder and Pujols wouldn't put up "Fielder" and "Pujols" numbers if they hit in AT&T anymore than Lincecum or Cain would produce "Lincecum" and "Cain" numbers if they pitched in Miller Park. Ask Jason Bay how he liked moving from Fenway to Citi.

Neither of those guys is Bay. More singles, doubles...they need a guy, or two, who can hit.
You make a good point though, a couple of guys with very good avg and speed could help the team as well.

Any Giants fan already knows this team's management isn't going to go out and break the bank on a prized FA acquisition, but honestly, they don't have to.

Based on the division they play in, it's conceivable that given the health of Freddy Sanchez & Posey, along with an improved (hopefully) Belt, Crawford, Huff, etc. the Giants can win the NL West and get in the tourney. That's where stout starting pitching and good situational hitting gets you somewhere......in short series.

I would've loved to see Reyes show up in Black & Orange, but I never felt it was really possible and I'd be happy to see them keep thier all-world staff intact.
