Red Bulls hope Angel fills seats

One and 20,000 are the numbers Red Bulls management is likely hoping for when the team takes the field against Columbus Saturday at Giants Stadium. One, as in (at least) one goal they hope forward Juan Pablo Angel will score, and 20,000, as in the minimum amount of people they hope will be in the stands to see their new designated player in action. Just 7,802 showed up for Sunday's 1-0 home loss to Colorado. Angel, a Colombian international, was acquired for his goal-scoring abilities, but he is also a big enough name to attract the ethnic soccer fan to a team that fan base has long ignored.

20,000 at a Red Bulls game? Not without a ton of freebie tickets. I wish it were not true, but RBNY just hasn't connected with the market.

20,000 seems like a reach to me...Maybe next year in the new stadium.
Which btw does not seem to be progressing very quickly.

I agree. He is an excellent player but does will not have the draw they are hoping for.

20,000???? Why does every New York pro sports team in New York think so highly of themselves?? RBNY should really set the bar a little lower. Give the guy a chance to score some goals and then the fans will show up. Angel is good but he can't be marketed like a Beckham. His name won't put people in Giant's Stadium, but when the Galaxy show up with Beckham in midfield all hell will break lose in NY. Angel has to get it done on the field first in MLS. Personally, I think someone like Ronaldo will have to put on the Red Bulls shirt just to get 20,000 in there. I hope I'm wrong but we'll see.

RBNY is a joke. They should worry about marketing their team properly and getting a legit 10K in the gates.
So sad that a team with a potential 22 MILLION person audience pulls such poor numbers. I guess YEARS of being horrible will do that.
Though I think Madridi is right, Ronaldo would have been a real draw. Though the so called "true football aficionados" should be elated to see a player of Angel's quality, I guess there aren't many in NY.
