08:11 AM ET 12.02 | At this point, it may come as a greater surprise when the Marlins land a high-profile free agent than to find out they're interested in one. Heath Bell is the latest name, but All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes has been connected with the Marlins for quite a while in rumors. ... [The] Marlins are optimistic they will land Reyes and are simply waiting on his decision. "Hopes are high," according to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking. And it's not just the Marlins themselves thinking this way. "Everyone seems to think Reyes is the right fit for the Marlins," a baseball source told Miller. Not only is the fit right, but the level of interest and ability to sign Reyes seem to have dwindled the number of potential landing spots.

You've got that right. It wouldn't even fly if this were the psychedelic 70's.

Agree - I actually think that unless Albert or Prince sign soon - Reyes could be back with the mets for ~90-100mm over 5-6 years - with the 6th being protected from IR status

Why hasn't any of these guys (Pujols, Reyes, Fielder) signed yet? Tired of all the rumors!

December 2, 2011  11:11 AM ET

Heath Bell just signed with the Marlins. Way to ever run a thread on that T&R...

Cuz they're waiting for each other to sign their contracts as negotiation. Right now, Howard & Teixeira's contracts are a starting point. Each are making around $25M/ season. But their offensive production doesnt really compare to Fielder & especially Pujols along with intangibles.

They're the big fish on the market, none of them have been FAs before. They're gonna take their time, there's no rush.

But expect other names to start signing after the new CBA is ratified. History has shown that alot of players sign within weeks of a new CBA. Not my words, but some baseball analysts.

Reyes is hanging around waiting for the Marlins make it a $100million deal maybe by adding another year. He is perfect for Florida, he will be closer to home and with 100 million he can do it often.

The Marlins should sign Reyes and trade HanRam for a huge package.
