08:23 AM ET 12.02 | Realignment talks are on the horizon, but, according to Gary Bettman, there's no crystal ball. [Bettman] discussed the matter at the opening of his weekly radio program Thursday night and stressed that a final decision won't necessarily be made by the close of the meetings. "There's a lot of speculation about what's going to happen on realignment -- and the answer is, as I sit here today, I'm not sure," Bettman said. ... "From the Board perspective of making whatever decision they want to make, people are all over the place," he said. "If you ask each of the 30 clubs what their preference is, my guess is you'd get 30 different preferences.

"If you ask each of the 30 clubs what their preference is, my guess is you'd get 30 different preferences."

And therefore nothing is going to get done in the near future.

I'm guessing one thing is no more teams moving to the "Sun Belt".

Be careful what you wish for Otis. They may end up in the Northeast. Anything is possible when the Buttgoblin is involved.

This is how out of touch he is...he's using the radio.

Let's see, Rangers to the West Ducks to the East, and cut the legs off this damn podium

Ok, it's not hard: You can do it geographically pretty easily:

WEST:
NW - Van, Cal, Edm, Wpg, Min
SW - SJ, Ana, LA, Pho, Col
Central - STL, Chi, CBJ, Det, Pit

EAST
NE - Buf, Tor, Ott, Mon, Bos
Atlantic - NYR, NYI, NJ, Phi, Was
SE - Fla, TB, Dal, Nas, Car

Geographically, it makes sense (get a map and draw circles around the divisions). As a Penguins fan, I'd be disappointed moving to the central and losing the Flyers rivalry, but we would gain the NHL front office manufactured Red Wings rivalry and it would put Crosby and and Ovechkin in opposite conferences for marketing purposes. If you want to preserve more of the current structure, you can rotate Pit -> Atlantic, Was -> SE, and Nas -> Central and still make pretty good sense, geographically. That leaves:

WEST:
NW - Van, Cal, Edm, Wpg, Min
SW - SJ, Ana, LA, Pho, Col
Central - STL, Chi, CBJ, Det, Nas

EAST
NE - Buf, Tor, Ott, Mon, Bos
Atlantic - NYR, NYI, NJ, Phi, Pit
SE - Fla, TB, Dal, Was, Car

It's not rocket surgery, people.

December 2, 2011  11:08 AM ET

Put Winnipeg in the NW- Natural rivals with Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver
Put Minnesota to the Central
Put Nashville into the Southeast
Put Detroit in the Northeast
Send the Caps to the Central division

This definitely makes more sense than what is currently in place.

"Bettman not sure what to expect from realignment."

Bettman is not sure what to expect when he goes to the can. But I'm pretty sure that was exactly what brought us to expansion into the "sun belt".

Asinine Otis that is why as a I keep saying that they are going to 4 divisions adding 2 expansion teams (QC & southern Ontario )With the Pacific & Mountain time zone as one division and Central and Eastern as the second Basically adding Dallas Winnipeg and Minnesota to the central and sending Nashville to the East (the east coast teams all in the same time zone so they will argue rivalries The disparity in Eastern teams will always be there but as the sun belt teams move I suspect that a couple will move west
