08:18 AM ET 12.02 | According to a report, Texas A&M has been discussing whether to fire Mike Sherman since last week's loss to Texas. [Sherman], whose Aggies started the season ranked in the nation's top 10 but ended up going 6-6 with a series of second-half collapses, was fired Thursday night. The decision was made in the afternoon, while Sherman was in Houston on a recruiting trip, and the coach was informed upon his return to College Station. ... Sources have told the American-Statesman that A&M will target University of Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin -- a former A&M assistant -- and Louisville head coach Charlie Strong, among others, as potential replacements.

QUOTE(#7):

Leach should have held on and he could have had this gig.

Nah, he's way to "non traditional" for the "ultra traditional" aggies....

He would have to change his comment to something about fat little milkmen or something like that.

QUOTE(#8):

Never mind, they are going SEC and Leach does not play D, so 12 Pac is where he should be.

He doesn't play O either...just gets a bunch of chunkers and catchers to do it for him.

Would love to see Strong get a "promotion" like this. Hate to play against him but he is a beloved figure in Gainesville (unlike some other former coaches).

Any time would be the worst when you might lose your coach that brought you to high reaches.Any time.

Yep. Not sure why Sumlin would take this particular job though. Money aside, it looks like a losing game trying to keep up with the best of the SEC west in the near term. 4 or 5 7-5 seasons in a row probably equals getting fired and not coaching again...

I hope he sticks around Louisville, so UF can hire him if Mus falters

I agree with that, but they all "think" they can do it, they believe. And hey, a couple of years at 2mil per can give a guy a nest egg too.

Pride comes before the fall I guess.

DatWas2Easy!!!GSU does have a good question. BTWN leaving the B12 and paying off the HC buy out how much money is in the TAMU kitty?

QUOTE(#15):

can TAM outbid the Sun Devils

Yes, if they want to...have to pass the hat because they are not doing too good right now. But there are a lot of aggies with a lot of coin running around.
