09:04 AM ET 12.03 | The Brioux Report, a blog on Toronto.com, trumpeted: "Cherry continues to be ratings gold at CBC, with Hockey Night in Canada storming back to 2.4 million viewers last Saturday night." One of the voices promulgating the idea of Cherry as must-see TV has occasionally been Mr. Cherry himself. But recent TV numbers don't seem to support the notion that Cherry is leading HNIC's ratings anywhere. There is a considerable drop in viewers the instant game action ends and the theme music for Coach's Corner begins.

Most often, he's the only reason to watch Hockey Night in Canada.

Amen brother. Even vegans can't eat that much Leaf fiber.

Cherry's sartorial sense alone makes Coach's Corner good viewing. Does he make suits out of old slipcovers from the 70s? How does his wife let him out of the house dressed like that?

His wife Rose died of cancer in 1997.

She's dead.

I don't really like they guy. Maybe I can't get past the clothes or maybe its his ego, but I just can't stand listening to the guy.

Oops. Didn't know that.

He's awful

I tuned out that overrated bag of stinky glue years ago. There is useful and then there's useless. Cherry has been useless for far too many years and its time for a new fresh face at the CBC. You can also rid yourselves of Don McLean while you are at it...He's not funny nor is he witty either. He's just a minor version of the class clown that Cherry already is.

He's since remarried guys. The original comment is valid.

I don't get HNIC but go online to view Coach's Corner.

I don't tune him out, but I turn turn down the brightness a little.

I don't always agree with him, but I can't help but watch every time he's on.

December 3, 2011  11:25 AM ET

everything about HNIC is a train wreck. Get rid of everybody on every one of their panels, and the producers, and the camera guys...then restart from scratch.

It's stale and it has to go. What ever happened to having real insight and hockey talk about what went on in the period? Oh....right, that went out the window when we decided that we had to cater to women and yuppies that just want to tune into the game so that they can say they are fans & will not be left in the dark while gabbing around the water cooler monday morning.

December 3, 2011  11:26 AM ET

sorry to 3rivers babe & any other lady that posts on the board and actually care about the game.

December 3, 2011  11:57 AM ET

he is funny, but he moved from having his pulse on the game back in the early 90s to just being another ESPNish talking head.

I agree with most of that but I do like the Hot Stove League. They do have to get rid of the panel starting with PJ Stock. Where the hell did he come from.

Me too. His soap box should have been taken away from him years ago. Maybe in his early broadcast career he was entertaining but not anymore, plain and simple he is a goof.

Must agree I find every year I watch less and less of HNIC and I can recall a time
when my father and I never missed a Saturday night........times have changed.

If he sounds as funny as he dresses, it would definitely add something to the game. But that really is a nice jacket (or pajamas).
