Realignment pushback from NHLPA

10:10 AM ET 12.04 | Slap Shots has learned the NHL Players' Association has cited ramifications of playoff qualification in expressing concern with, if not downright opposition to, a proposed shift from the current structure to a four-division setup. The NHLPA, which does not have a formal voice in the matter, believes such a setup would be unfair to teams in the eight-team divisions. The union also has expressed concerns about changes in the schedule that would create increased travel.

What has gotten into the players, complaining about all the travel they do? The majority gets paid millions of dollars to play a game, they don't have to pay for their tickets or hotel and they get out of town 25 or so times a year to play more games.

And if they set the new divisions right, we might a reduction in travel.

When you see Fehr's picture up there, hard to believe he would choose that particular issue as his first union foray on behalf of the players.

The unions opposition to realignment is curious. If Detroit and Winnipeg swap divisions/conferences it would seem to me that their travel schedule would be easier, much easier. Of note is that realignment would also bring with it a more balanced schedule and a bit more travel for many teams though not particularly the cross country type.

You are correct that the members of the NHPLA whining about traveling and lodging first class while earning huge $$$$ is a bit pathetic. Maybe these boys would rather go back to their home towns and work real jobs for 50-100K like the rest of us.

BTW, the last line from the above article; "* Max Pacioretty thinks he deserved no punishment for taking out Kris Letang following through on a shot.

Air Canada has yet to weigh in."

Ouch!

Might as well keep it the way it is until they find out if the Yotes, or any other team are moving east, or North until you make a final judgement. Otherwise foolish.

The Mighty Flames won actually ;-)

I kind of like the 4 division alignment. There have been a couple times when the Pens had the 3rd best record in the East, but they were the 4th seed because the number 3 seed went to a division leader.

How about those Pens. They killed off a minute and half of 6 on 3 to end the game. Eric Staal was diving so much I thought he was auditioning for the Canucks.

The rumors are getting stronger that the Yotes will be in QC starting next year.

I prefer pencil. It is far more forgiving when you make a mistake.

BTW, you didn't have to tell us that a Penguin player was diving all over the ice, it goes without saying. D'oh!

Man, am I a trouble maker or what?

The Pens never make a mistake. They also don't dive. They have been know to embellish at times, but they don't dive.

OK, I'll take your word for it, but how do you explain Sidney Crosby being seen wearing a Gregg Louganis T-shirt?
