08:04 AM ET 12.05 | As the free-agent courting period warms up, the Heat will take center stage. Once NBA teams can speak with free agents beginning Monday, Miami Heat president Pat Riley has his franchise in strong position to sell Shane Battier on signing to play with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Battier has been a primary target in free agency for the Heat, and sources say the pitch of Riley, coach Erik Spoelstra and key Heat players could ultimately confirm Battier's strong feelings about chasing a championship in Miami. Riley and Spoelstra see Battier as a strong defender with an ability to hit the open shots that'll come his way playing with James, Wade and Chris Bosh.

It won't matter; Miami will not win anyway.

Actually this would be a good pick up for Miami. A guy who brings his A game every night be it defense and hitting the open shot and isnt looking for the lime light.

Even if you dont like Miami or whatever you have to admit that eventually this team will host the trophy....

Agree with your last point.....but miami doesn't need another forwardThey have lbj, bosh and haslem, where is shane-o playing? They need to fortify the center spot and try and upgrade the point. That's it.....there's no $ for anything else

I agree with you they need to get a center before they go after anyone but Shane would help coming of the bench at the small forward and sometimes 2 guard spot.

He would be a great 6th man if he could accept that role. When DWade goes out to rest you bring in Battier who will then spell LBJ also. He would give them a bench they never really had last year and keep the stars fresher.

Oh Pat Riley. When you need a center and point guard so bad ur running around chasing a forward. The so called super team you assembled last year failed. Instead of fixing your flaws ur out to get too much of what you already.

But they have no $If they spend their $ on a 4th forward, when they have no starting center and an ok starting pg, it makes no logical sense. It'd be like Minnesota drafting ANOTHER tweener forward or point

Did you read that Bosh has announced he's now ready to try and play the center position?

The tranny wants to play with the big boys!!

actually if I was Pat Riely, I will make a strong play to trade Lebron for Howard and then try to make some kind of deal for CP3.

Wade Howard and Bosh on the same time is scarry!

Maybe that is the plan. Then using their precious cap money on Battier would make sense.

(I still think there is no way they are trading LBJ or Wade ... and Bosh.)

Not with Eric Spoelstra as head coach . They need a coach that can control the big 3 and not one they control .
