Anaheim in aggressive pursuit of Wilson

08:09 AM ET 12.06 | What would it take to keep C.J. Wilson in the AL West? The Angels may be unwilling to meet [Wilson's] initial asking price, but that hasn't dampened their aggressive pursuit of the free-agent left-hander, which continued at the winter meetings Monday. Asked whether he would be hesitant to give a free-agent pitcher more than the five-year, $85-million deal Angels ace Jered Weaver signed in August, General Manager Jerry Dipoto said, "It would certainly create some hesitancy." Wilson is reportedly seeking a deal of at least $100 million. But Dipoto was also unfazed by another report that Wilson had received a six-year offer, one that was subsequently tied to, and denied by, the Washington Nationals.

Giving Wilson more than Weaver? That would go over really well.

You have to be kidding. I don't think Wilson is anything more than a #3 starter, problem is they will be paying him #1 starter money.

As far as your rankings, Texas should be #1 and the Orioles should be dead last.

1. red sox and yanks need to rebuild, but dont know it yet. they already missed their window.
2. orioles are rangers-east campus. 3. tigers have a good blend of top pitching and top offense...verlander will only be better next year.

Nope. I like the Rays rotation better, especially when you get to the back half. But I agree that adding Wilson would put the Angels in an excellent position.

No kidding. Weaver will be having a word with the GM 5 minutes after Wilson is signed.

if i were cashman, i would be selling granderson and cano each for the same sort of haul texas got from atlanta a few years back.....now that would be smart....but of course, the fans think they are just a tweak or two away....please...

That's exactly the problem. And this guy is a decent regular season pitcher. Post season...not so much. giving him Ace money is stupid! But someone will do it.

A tweak or two away from what? The Yankees were easily the second best team in baseball last year.

I'm a long time Orioles fan so let me be the first to point out you are out of your mind.
