08:12 AM ET 12.06 | With one report indicating Mark Buehrle has at least a dozen suitors, the free agent lefty's chances of returning to Chicago may be growing longer, but that didn't stop Robin Ventura from making his pitch. [Ventura] said he ran into [Buehrle] a couple of weeks ago in New York. Having been a free agent himself, Ventura knows the emotions Buehrle is dealing with, so he made a modest effort to convince him to stay with the Sox. "I made my case in person to him," Ventura said at the winter meetings Monday. "I just wanted him to know what I thought of him and what he's meant to the organization." And Buehrle's reaction? "He just smiled, kind of laughed," Ventura said. "I didn't expect anything different. He gets it. I get it, too."

He could care less unless he's paid.

It's all about the benjamins.

Not necessarily. I bet if the Cardinals make him a competitive offer (I don't even know if they're pursuing him), I'd bet my daughter he comes here.

Well seeing as the Cards already have 5 starters, where is he going to pitch?

Trade Waste-brook for next to nothing if you have to.

Want to get rid of your daughter eh?

i'm sure it's hard for him. i'm sure all things equal he'd like to resign with the white sox, but they're gonna need to rebuild and i wouldn't blame beurhle for wanting to spend his last few years with a contender.

Lol. Nice. And, no, I'm just that confident.

I know he told Buehrle not to sign with Texas because when you mess up Ryan will throw a headlock on you and give you a bloody lip.

Those punches that Ryan threw at Ventura were so weak they looked like love taps. That scene was funny to watch alright but Ryan had absolutely nothing behind those punches.

its all about the green's if the sox really want buehrle to remain in the white sox club, they should had sign him long time ago!!

December 6, 2011  01:03 PM ET

it doesn't matter if ventura talks sweet to buehrle, and even if the obama talks to him, he wouldn't stay in the white sox franchise after all its a place where they don't need him any more!!

buehrle should go with the halos they would treat him nice and they will wellcome him, the halos knows how to care for good and bad players!!

I think he was actually afraid that he could easily kill him if he really punched him. Ryan may very well have been an old guy at the time but Ventura had nothing for him.

I think he was playing to the camera without hurting him.

It sounds like the Cardinals are trying to make room by shopping Lohse and Westbrook.
