Realignment vote over before it started

08:17 AM ET 12.06 | Gary Bettman reportedly offered simple realignment -- Winnipeg going West, and either Detroit or Columbus going East -- or a four-conference change. According to [Brian Burke], however, the deal was all but done before the meeting even began. "It was typical Gary Bettman," he said with admiration. "It's like a Chicago election in the 1930s. Not that it's fixed, but you have a pretty good sense what's going to happen beforehand." There was little actual debate, and the vote was taken to implement the new alignment in just over an hour. "Not that much (debate)," said [David Poile]. "That's because (Bettman) talked to everybody ahead of time. He knew what everyone's view was. And everybody voted for the right thing for the majority."

the nhl finally got one right. I'm floored.Dallas no longer in the pacific. The midwest teams all have natural rivals. The southeast teams have been split up so that they will get more games against non-southeast teams...

That said, I don't mind the new divisions. The Florida teams may relocate in Quebec and Hamilton before long so it makes sense to put them in that division with the northeast teams right away.

I like the new divisions too. Finally somebody at the top came up with something that makes sense for once. Now ... can we also do away with the dastardly instigator rule while we are at it? That would make my day!
