08:12 AM ET 12.07 | Albert Pujols in the AL West? After landing shortstop Jose Reyes, the Miami Marlins progressed toward an even bigger free-agent splash by offering a 10-year contract to [Pujols] on Tuesday. The offer to Pujols is valued at more than $200 million. But the Marlins aren't alone in challenging the St. Louis Cardinals. The Angels, under new general manager Jerry DiPoto, are engaged in talks with Pujols, a major-league source told FOXSports.com, and could transform what seemed to be a two-team race. The Angels, who finished 10 games behind the AL champion Texas Rangers, are starving for a slugger like Pujols. Their leading home-run hitter in 2011 was Rookie of the Year runner-up Mark Trumbo with 29.

From everything I've read, that's news tot he Angels

Finally a move that would make sense, other than staying in St. Louis. The Angels have so much more to offer than the Marlins, a pitching staff!!!

Run away Cardinals! Albert's best years are behind him. Don't be even more stupid than the Yankee owners. You just don't give a slugger over 30 a huge 20 year contract. The Yankees can survive the stupidity because they have 3 times your revenue.

Let him go to another team only to be despised in 3 years when he breaks down and drags the team into the basement with a suffocating non-performing contract. I loved Jim Edmunds. He did almost nothing after 35. Albert has trended down for two years now. We're out of slump territory and into decline territory.

What a joke. If he doesn't go to the Marlins he would be foolish!

... make that a 10 year contract. Although 20 years makes almost as much sense as ten years.

Why don't the Cardinals give Berkman a 7 year 120 million dollar contract while they are at it? Why not? They'll owe Albert 150 million when he's 35 with these current numbers.

From what I understand the Marlins are offering him a front office position after he hangs up his cleats. The Cards not so much!

This is the same team refusing to give a no trade clause?

I hope he goes just to watch the Ozzie, Albert, Loria, and Hanley show. Albert's considerable ego has been massaged a great deal by the Cards and the local media here. I don't think he'll get that in a large market media or from Ozzie and Loria. Hanley has the same need to be THE man. This could be really interesting to watch.

All that and the fact that I believe the regret will be deep for the team signing Pujols to a ten year contract.

Why would he need or want a job after he retires?

A half-billion dollars doesn't buy what it used to.

Remember - people do get bored. There are those that don't need to work - but just like doing it. And where else can you work at something you may actually love to do.

With that much money to spend, believe me I would not get bored.
