Big East basketball changed for the worst

08:16 AM ET 12.07 | As the Big East looks to expand from sea to shining sea, its basketball offerings are thinning. [Eventually ... we'll] have tiers of D-I schools, a real, thick, black line of distinction. The Big East will make the cut above said line, but it will be blurred into the group of lesser conferences that it's now on its way to joining at the small-kids table. Right now, the league still has to worry about UConn bailing to the ACC. If that happens, all's truly lost. The Big East will still have good teams and good games, but it's shaping up to be defined as the true shell of what it once was. We're now seeing what can happen to a prestigious basketball conference when it gets desperate.

SMU, Houston and UCF to the rescue. That ought to help the quality of their hoops. Too lazy to look but I think they've been in the bottom half of C-USA the last few years. Houston might have been decent a few years back.

I saw Houston paly a few weeks back.....they have some good pieces. I also read somewhere they have a top 10 class next year. IMO, they are coming back......now being good in the SWC is a world diff than being good in the Big East.
Would have to think Houston has more BBall upside than SMU or Boyzee.

I think BSU and SDSU are football only. Where are their other sports going to land?

he also said when it comes down to calling a play at the end of a game with it all on the line " What is a play? you tell five guys to be at the post office a 5:00 pm and I guarantee you one will not be there on time.
You get the ball to the guy who has the hottest hand."
Great coach and a good man.

The Big East is worse in basketball and worse in football with the losses of Pitt, Syracuse and West Virginia.
How can they possibly keep their BCS AQ status after 2013?

Boise and SDSU are for football only. One would hope that road games for those two in the Eastern & Central Time Zones would be mid to late afternoon kick-off and no Sunday night or mid-week games.
So far there have been no more than one hour time differences for basketball and the non-revenue producing sports. When the talk about Tx. & Ok. going to the Pac-whatever was going on I visualized both the Men's and Women's BB coaches saying, "All evening road games are going to end after midnight.", and the Austin Hilton Hotel manager calling the Texas AD and stating Saturday BB games against OU,OkSt. and TT are worth a lot of rooms, meals and a busy bar room.
