08:06 AM ET 12.08 | There is an irony to the notion that Chris Paul would want to play with Carmelo Anthony in New York. [Anthony's] presence in New York is why Chris Paul wants to play for the Knicks, and why it will take a small miracle for them to land him in a trade. A source close to Paul says there is a possibility the Hornets will trade the All-Star point guard as early as Friday, when training camps officially open and teams can begin signing free agents. The Knicks have stayed aggressive in their pursuit of Paul and have tried to be creative in order to strike a deal with New Orleans. Not surprisingly, a source close to the talks says a trade with the Knicks is unlikely since the club dealt most of its valuable assets for Anthony last February.

With the way Melo willed his way to NY, I'll be shocked if CP3 doesn't do likewise. Forget all the talk of GM shufflings... CP3 will be a Knick next summer or sooner....

I can only hope that cp3 does not sign an extension with anyone. Knicks have nothing to offer via trade

If Knicks are getting cp it will be via free agent next summer. Knicks have nothing to off

I hope so too. Demps will be stupid not to take Celtics offer... time's not on his side.

I dont want CP3, I want Howard. Knicks make it happen!

Heat Big 3 made it seem like they were open to any team when in reality they knew what they were gonna do all along. At least the Knick 3 made it known ahead of time they all wanted to play together, there was no smoke and mirrors.

Would CP3 really take the midlevel to play in NYK?

I hate Miami more than Lebron hates last year. F Miami... Knicks is back. We taking over!

i said it in another thread: knowing CP3 wants to go to the Knicks and will only sign an extension with us. with that having been said CP3 for Billups expiring contract, Fields and 2 first round picks. you can't tell me that's an unbelievably horrible deal. yes its not value for value but you never get those with super stars. its more than what Cavs and Raptors got for LBJ and Bosh. in the beginning this is isn't a deal you would take, its only after time passes and CP3 says he won't sign an extension with other teams does a deal like this start to look at least a little more attractive. its not horrible, its your typical "i got you over a barrel but i'll try to not make you look like you got sodomized in this deal too much". normally in most deals one side has the upper hand, its not common for both teams to have equal standing in a deal.

Yes this is one of the excuses thrown out there now. Instead of "They shouldn't team up they should take their own team to the title" now it's become..."Well it's the way that they teamed up that's wrong!".

there's a way to leave your team (like how Melo did it) and a way to not leave your team (like how LBJ did it). when you tell your team ahead of time you want out and won't resign with them they can at least get something(s) of value for you. when you string along your team and hold a tv show and leave your team with nothing in return for you, thats bush.

i'll say it up and down, Melo had the right to not resign a deal with the Nuggets. everyone says how he forced his way out, i see it as not leaving your old team high and dry. Melo gave Denver a gift. LBJ gave Cleveland a lump of coal.

This year he is under contract. Next year Knicks can sign him outright. New Orleans is not releasing him, they will trade for the highest bidder and Knicks have nothing to offer
