08:11 AM ET 12.08 | Bobby Valentine chose not to wade into the Boston-New York rivalry. [Valentine] wasted no time establishing exactly how he plans to roll during his first major press conference at the winter meetings. Asked a simple question -- "Can you talk about the rivalry with the Yankees" -- Valentine delivered a grinning quote that made it clear he won't be genuflecting before the 27 World Series pennants hanging in Yankee Stadium. "No. I hate the Yankees," he said. "I don't want to waste this valuable time talking about the Yankees. This is too valuable. I told Joe Girardi I used to love them. But now I hate them." Valentine's response was tongue in cheek as the lifelong Yankees fan laughed halfway through.
