08:10 AM ET 12.09 | Albert Pujols is now in Seattle's backyard for the next 10 years. By Thursday morning, the Los Angeles Angels looked like the most dangerous players in baseball. They stunned the game and rocked [Jack Zduriencik's] world by signing Pujols, the biggest star of his generation, to a 10-year, quarter-of-a-billion dollar deal. ... At some point in the building process, you have to have some guts. You have to separate yourself, the way Angels owner Arte Moreno did this week. You have to stop playing it safe. You have to make expensive, game-changing moves. In the Mariners' case, you have to go after the next-best-thing -- Prince Fielder. This is their Albert Pujols moment.

I love this, all of the big bats going to the AL West.

Does anyone really think Seattle is going to pay 200 million+ for Fielder? Add in that Safeco is a cavern and his HR numbers would drop dramatically.

Well, besides Boras that is....

I'd be shocked if he got 200 million, he's not in Pujols' class and with his weight I'd be very wary of committing 10 years.

Seattle needs more than Fielder right now to compete with the Rangers and Angels.

I have heard reports that the Mariners have the money to spend.

Boras is a snake.

Well, in fairness, the Yanks gave that kind of money, just over a little shorter time period, to Sabathia who makes Fielder look a little anorexic.

....after this signing, the al power rankings will be : 1. angels 2. tigers 3. rangers. 4. mariners 5. rays 6. red sox 7. orioles 8. yanks...

Reported as offensive to snakes, and Don Prudhomme.

At age 28 to Pujols 32 I don't know if that's true. Whose numbers will be better over the next 5 years? I'd go with Fielder.

You know, whenever I thought I heard you say the dumbest thing ever, you just keep talking.

He might not be in AP's class, but he's still in a class of his own and will command a princely sum.

It's not the sum, it's the number of years. This Blubber Hound has a lot of nerve asking for more than 5 years with his serious eating disorder. After age 32 it will explode all over everyone's laps. It will be interesting to see how many years he suckers some team out of

yep, that's what i was thinking....5 yrs...max. and he's still the fattest vegetarian i've ever seen.

I here they might make a trade with the Marlins for Hanley Ramirez. Only down side is that Miami might want King Felix for him.

Nope...What is the point, he would just led the league in walks. Nothing behind or in front of him.

Whoever wrote this in Seattle needs to take into account one significant factor - why in the world would Prince ever consider Seattle. "Hey, I want to play in a stadium where balls go to die, and be the only stud bat on the team and get pitched around half the time!" You'd have to offer him $30 million a year, no way he's ever going there!

But HE thinks he is worth almost as much as AP got and that is not going to happen.
It could be a long time before he realizes that. 10 years is not even an option with a guy like him.
