08:09 AM ET 12.09 | Albert Pujols in the Bronx? The Yankees never feigned even a glimmer of interest in fitting Albert Pujols for pinstripes, but the slugger's agent did reach out to general manager Brian Cashman just to make sure. Cashman learned of Pujols' monster contract with the Angels via text message during Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, and he said that Pujols' agent, Dan Lozano, touched base early in the process on his client's behalf. "I said no; I gave it a nice, respectful no," Cashman said. "We've made our commitments, we have guys we're committed to, and so ... even though you can say he can fit on anybody's club, realistically our money is spent in those directions. How do you add that with our commitments? You just can't."

In right field its Albert Pujols.....

Gee, wonder if tomorrow's article is about the agent of Pujols checking to see if the Red Sox were interested?

They've got about 15 days worth of T&R's based on this one premise.

Just trying to get the big 2 involved to shake some more money out of tree. Boston and NY don't need AP especially since both clubs want to trim payroll to avoid the tax burden.

Are you sure he can't play 3rd base Brian? There's a tremendous need at that position at the moment.

December 9, 2011  08:35 AM ET

Can't blame the agent for trying and even without Boston and New York involved he still made out pretty well.

December 9, 2011  08:40 AM ET

Good for Cashman. He knew that it would have caused a lot of grief on the team. Besides the agent could have done the old Scott Boras move of "Yeah the Yanks are offering 30 Mil for Albert. Any counter offers!"

December 9, 2011  08:41 AM ET

No player agent would be doing his due diligence for his client without contacting the Yankees at least once.

Pujols was obviously not going to be given an offer by NY. Where did he think he was going to play?

There ya go. This years FA class, except for a very few big names , is lousy.
Pitchers Wilson and Mark B hit the market at the right time. Their record say s they are good, but not that good.

Sounds like they had interest in anyone who would pay the money........except the Cards

They own the NBA contract and were wetting themselves over the fact that there was almost no NBA this year.

hell, they went as far as starting to show hockey highlights during SC, that'll stop in a hurry.
