07:59 AM ET 12.13 | The subject of Bill Cowher's return is sure to heat up in Miami, despite the fact Cowher tried this past October to put that speculation to rest. The Dolphins aren't convinced that he's adamant about that and still plan to contact him, according to a source. ... If Cowher declines Miami's overtures, [Stephen Ross] is expected to turn his attention to former Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher, ESPN analyst Jon Gruden and former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick. Gruden won a Super Bowl in Tampa, Billick won one in Baltimore and Fisher lost one with Tennessee. Philadelphia's Andy Reid would be of interest to the Dolphins if he and the Eagles surprisingly part ways. Giants coach Tom Coughlin also would be on Miami's radar.

He can do better.

I suspect that Cowher would hold out for more control over the team than Sparano has. I'm not sure the Fish want to give that to him, though.

Not going to happen, if he comes back it's with a ring in the next two seasons possible.

December 13, 2011  08:34 AM ET

Everyone will contact Cowher. He'll answer with, "Thanks, but no thanks."

December 13, 2011  08:41 AM ET

So the basic idea is Miami will contact every available proven coach with a resume until somebody says yes. Wow, I learned so much from this thread.

Notice there's not a single drop of fresh blood on that list. With the exception of Cowher there's not even a decent coach on that list.
