Bucs GM wanted Talib gone, Morris intervened

08:05 AM ET 12.14 | For his part, Raheem Morris didn't come off any more worried about job status than usual, despite the unraveling in Tampa Bay. After getting arrested for the gun incident, Tampa Bay management was ready to cut ties with [cornerback Aqib Talib] once and for all, according to a team source. General manager Mark Dominik didn't care about Talib's supreme talent, the distractions were no longer worth the drama, the source said. Talib had been in at least four altercations with teammates and coaches before the gun incident and was arrested for assaulting a taxi driver in 2009. Because of the lockout, the Bucs couldn't follow through right away, giving Morris time to talk Dominik away from the proverbial ledge.

Sure would be nice to see Talib in Dallas County orange...

The big issue for the head coach and ownership is "when does the player no longer contribute more than is subtracted". A great talent also indicates the person may not be performing as well as expected in the long term. There is something to be said about the public image of the franchise as well as good that comes from a calm/mature locker room. Drama is not usually a good thing.

I still can't figure out why he is not in lockup.

TB still has a team? Figured they would have moved before this comment.

Yes...and you can watch them Saturday night against the Cowboys.

How will Dallas lose this game?

By scoring fewer points than the opposition.

My preference would be a nice orange like the type you see occasionally worn on roadsides...

With black stenciling and numbers...

Not just avoiding jail, how has he avoided suspension, fines, etc. from the league? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6599193

Would 15 INTs in three seasons have anything to do with that? If he was a practice squad scrub, he'd probably be picking up trash along the side of the highway by now.

"Police, who arrested Talib on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, have said they believe Talib and his mother, Okolo Talib, shot at the man March 21. The man was not injured."

Well there you have it. Guns & Motherhood. What's more Texas than that? The man should be given a medal. But he and his Mom both need to attend marksmanship classes to improve their aim.

Seriously, the League will wait until the judicial system plays out, which could be more months down the line.

He may not be in county orange but he is definitely close to it in creamsicle orange. I've cheered for this team ever since '99 and having watched them give up so much to acquire talent whether it was for players or coaches has gotten them in this position. And the high draft picks they have had aside from Josh Freeman haven't contributed to much aside from losing games and fans.

I still plan to retire and move to Tampa but I just may have to choose South Carolina instead. There may not be a team in Tampa to watch so I think I will pick up golf instead.

This team sorely lacks veteran leadership.

Dallas County really doesn't give a rat's aSs about what he does on the field in Tampa.
