The NHL's worst shootout team, ever?

08:23 AM ET 12.15 | Instituted in 2005, the shootout has not treated the Panthers well. In 73 shootout games since the 2005-06 season, the Panthers are a mere 25-48. Florida's 48 shootout losses are most in the league (four more than 29th-ranked Columbus) and its winning percentage of 34 percent is also worst in the league. The Panthers are the worst team in league history in shootouts at home winning just eight of 40 in Sunrise (all five shootouts this season have been played at home). ... This season, like most, the Panthers problem is a lack of scoring in a shootout. In five contests, the Panthers have connected on just one of 14 shots. Marcel Goc scored on Florida's second shot of its first shootout, a win against Tampa Bay during the home opener.

I just can't get the energy to care about the Panthers on a Thursday. Check back on Tuesday.

Is that when they're announcing the move to Hamilton?

I'd rather see them in Quebec, myself.

Everyone does. Hell, even i'd probably rather a team in QC over S.O. if for the simple fact that I think QC would take over Edmonton/Winnipeg as least desirable place to play for FA's and leave the East with another whipping boy. But if it comes down to a bidding war, the Golden Horseshoe will always prevail over QC sadly. Even if they have to pay off the Leafs/Sabres, the investment is so worth it.

Perhaps their being horrible in the shootout also coincides with their past decade of being a terribly run franchise. But then again, when you have owners thinking putting Mike Keenan and then Jacques Martin as GM (and Martin for a time was Coach and GM....getting nauseous even remembering that time period) is a good idea....well, that tells you all you need to know.
And I think the Yotes may see a move in their future before Florida, who I think has around 20 years on their arena lease left (and a LOT of money still owed to taxpayers for said arena too). If they can keep on the upswing, the fans will show up....but after 10 years of sucking--it's going to take more than what they've done so far (which I am pleased with....so far that is).

Add up the average crowd sizes at Panthers and Coyotes games and the sum is probably the same as any Winnipeg sellout. What more evidence does Bettman need to move these teams?

Seriously, I can't wait for the NHL to come to its senses and get RID of the SO. I can't tell you how many times I check the scores of Eastern Conf games and root for at least ONE of the teams to lose. Every 3-2 OT game that the Pens/Flyers play hurts teams in the lower half.
Now with the realignment next season and DiPietro going on IR again, the Isles will NEVER make the playoffs.

Are you suggesting that the Buttgoblin should actually admit he is wrong? Ha! Good luck with that.

With the exception of Nashville (they have a big fan base from what I've seen/heard), which expansion team the past 10 years has been a success?
The answer for Buttmen is to STOP expanding. You're diluting talent. Get rid of teams instead of moving them.

Get rid of the shootout.
Get rid of the 4 on 4 crap in overtime.
Put the red line back in.
Loose the instigator penalty.
Take Bettman to the South P{ole and leave him there.
Did I miss anything?

No OT, no shoot out, bring back the tie game. Agree, get rid of the instigator penalty. Agree, dump, Bettman somewhere but not the South Pole. (I'm only considering the Penguins that live there.) I kind of like it without the red line. It opens the game.

Can we lose the stupid area where the goalies can't play the puck too? Now that Broduer is about to retire, it won't matter.

The Panthers problem is a lack of scoring in the shootout.
My God, the research that must have taken! More seriously, drop the shootout entirely. Nothing wrong with ties in the regular season. OT in the playoffs.

I actually like the red line being gone. THe rest I am fine with. Add shrinking goalie equipment. Getting rid of the Armor. Having someone in Shanny's job be consistent. Get rid of the trapezoid
