Celtics starting without Pierce, Rondo?

08:06 AM ET 12.16 | When Boston opens its preseason Sunday in Toronto, at least one key player probably won't make the trip. Paul Pierce (bruised right heel) and Rajon Rondo [stats] (sprained right ankle) remained out of the contact work in yesterday's session. "Paul will be out until probably around Monday," said Rivers. "That's what Eddie (Lacerte, the trainer) said. He thought he could possibly play (in Sunday's preseason game in Toronto), but why take the chance going from no practice to playing in an exhibition game?" Rondo's situation could come into greater light [Friday night], when it's determined if he'll play in the scrimmage before season ticket-holders and sponsors at the Garden. "Rondo may play Sunday, but I don't know that."

Ther whole year wil be the equivalent of one long pre-season.

What I find funny is that it's shortened to 66 games yet everyone seems to be acting like somehow this will be a real drain on players... way worse than say... an 82 game season??

I hope at least one star on every team breaks a leg.

QUOTE(#6):

It's the compression of the games that makes it intense. Sometimes they will play 3 games in 3 nights and that can be draining if they are competitive games. Without the rest in between games a lot of guys will be playing with tight muscles and ligaments and risk injury more.

BS... if they play a couple of 3 nighters I will agree they will be tired as all hell... that week.

But otherwise it's pretty much the same routine as any year.

Yeah it is. I really don't want to write off the Celtics, but Ainge is going to have to come up with a plan to move on from the Big Three.

The Heat added Battier, Bulls added Rip, Knicks got Chandler (maybe more), Indy got West.
Those to me, will be the top 4 teams in the east, with the biggest losers being Celts and Hawks that have nothing to show in terms of year-to-year improvement

I left out ORL because it is a 1-man army, and that one man's status is up in the air.

My Celts should have never gotten rid of Perk. I would still take a flyer on Oden or maybe Kris Humphries. The lack of quality bigs is going to kill us.

.....yeah, but......Its a shortened pre and regular season and the celts with their age and improved east waont be able to coast into a top 3 seed this year.

Thats why its even more imperative they get rest...its not like Truth doesn't remember how to play ball
